Hands-On: Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight WiFi

A smarter way to cover more ground

Hands-On: Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight WiFi

Home security cameras have become remarkably good at monitoring a single angle. The problem is that most driveways, yards, and entryways don’t exist in a single angle. Covering everything often means installing multiple cameras, paying subscription fees, or accepting blind spots.

The Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight WiFi is designed to solve that problem. Combining a 360° pan-and-tilt camera, dual-lens viewing, intelligent motion tracking, powerful floodlights, and local AI processing, it aims to deliver comprehensive coverage from a single device. Currently priced $220 with no required subscription, it makes a compelling case for homeowners who want more visibility without adding more hardware.

Design & Build

The TrackFlex is a substantial piece of equipment. The main body consists of a wide horizontal housing that contains the electronics, speaker, and three PIR motion sensors, which stand out thanks to their glossy white finish against the matte white chassis. Two independently adjustable floodlight arms extend from the top, while the camera itself sits in a black oval-shaped pod suspended beneath on a motorized gimbal.

At roughly 1.2kg, the TrackFlex feels solid and purposeful. Construction is primarily plastic, but there is no noticeable flex, creaking, or looseness. Everything intended to face the elements carries an IP66 weather-resistance rating, providing protection against rain, dust, and harsh outdoor conditions.

One minor design compromise is the storage and service access panel. The microSD card slot and USB-C port sit behind a silicone plug rather than a more robust screw-down cover. It maintains weather resistance, but we’d prefer something a bit more substantial on a device designed for permanent outdoor installation.

Installation & Setup

The TrackFlex requires hardwired AC power, making it best suited as a replacement for an existing floodlight or outdoor security fixture. If wiring is already in place, installation is refreshingly straightforward.

One thoughtful touch is the included mounting hook built into the bracket. It allows the camera body to hang securely while wiring connections are made, which becomes especially valuable when balancing on a ladder. Reolink also uses simple push-fit connectors that make the electrical connections quick and uncomplicated.

With existing wiring available, installation can realistically be completed in about 15 minutes.

Setup through the Reolink app follows the company’s familiar process. Bluetooth-assisted pairing speeds up initial Wi-Fi configuration, while the setup wizard walks users through detection zones, notification preferences, recording settings, and scheduling options. Support for dual-band Wi-Fi 6 on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks helps maintain stable connectivity even when the camera is mounted farther from a router.

What Makes TrackFlex Different

Most outdoor cameras force a compromise. Wide-angle cameras provide context but struggle with distant detail. Zoom-capable cameras can identify subjects but often miss activity happening outside their limited field of view.

The TrackFlex addresses both problems simultaneously.

A primary 4K 8MP lens with a 104-degree horizontal field of view captures the broader scene, while a secondary 4MP telephoto lens provides up to 6x hybrid zoom for subject tracking. Rather than forcing users to switch between views, both camera feeds appear simultaneously within the app. You get the context of the full scene alongside detailed tracking footage.

The camera’s motorized gimbal provides up to 355 degrees of horizontal rotation and 50 degrees of tilt. Combined with three strategically positioned PIR sensors, the system can detect motion even outside its current viewing angle and automatically rotate toward activity. Reolink calls this Out-of-Frame Detection, and in practice it allows the camera to react to movement before it actually enters the visible frame.

For larger properties, corner lots, long driveways, or backyards with multiple access points, this approach can potentially eliminate the need for several fixed-position cameras.

Floodlights, AI, and Security Features

The floodlight portion of the TrackFlex is more than an afterthought. Two independently adjustable light heads produce up to 3000 lumens of brightness and support color temperatures ranging from a warm 3000K to a cool 6500K.

That flexibility matters. Cooler temperatures can improve visibility and deterrence, while warmer lighting often produces more natural-looking footage and better color reproduction. Brightness can also be adjusted to suit the environment.

A built-in 110dB siren adds another layer of active deterrence.

Powering the intelligence behind the camera is Reolink’s ReoNeura Core AI platform. The system can distinguish between people, vehicles, and animals, with individual sensitivity settings for each category. Detection and classification occur locally on the device rather than relying on cloud processing.

One of the more interesting additions is natural-language video search. Users can search recorded footage with phrases such as “person near garage,” “blue car in driveway,” or “dog in backyard,” and the system surfaces relevant recordings automatically.

Perhaps most importantly, these AI capabilities do not require a subscription.

Storage Without Monthly Fees

Subscription fatigue is real, especially in the smart home category. Reolink continues to separate itself by offering its complete feature set without recurring charges.

The TrackFlex supports local recording to microSD cards up to 512GB, along with compatibility for Reolink NVR systems, Home Hub devices, FTP servers, and NAS storage. AI detection, smart search, and event management remain fully accessible without a cloud plan.

For homeowners accustomed to recurring fees from Ring or Nest ecosystems, that’s a significant advantage.

Who It’s For

The Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight WiFi is ideal for homeowners looking to maximize coverage from a single installation point. It’s particularly well suited for larger front yards, long driveways, side yards, detached garages, and other areas where activity can originate from multiple directions.

It’s also an attractive option for anyone looking to move away from subscription-based security ecosystems while retaining advanced features such as AI detection, tracking, and intelligent search.

The hardwired installation requirement means it won’t be the right fit for every home, but those replacing an existing floodlight or adding power to a strategic location will likely appreciate everything the TrackFlex brings to the table.

Early Take

The TrackFlex feels like a thoughtful evolution of the outdoor security camera; it’s what we expect in a modern floodlight. The combination of dual simultaneous camera feeds, PTZ tracking, out-of-frame motion detection, powerful floodlights, and local AI creates a security solution that covers more ground than traditional fixed-angle cameras.

We’re still evaluating long-term tracking behavior and app performance in more demanding real-world scenarios, but first impressions are strong. Reolink has assembled a feature-rich package that avoids subscription lock-in while delivering capabilities typically associated with much more expensive systems.

At $220, the Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight WiFi stands out as one of the more compelling outdoor security camera options available today.
