Verizon officially announced the DROID DNA, an HTC smartphone with a 5-inch 1080p HD display, launching November 21st at $199.99 with a two-year service agreement.
Key specs: a 5-inch Super LCD 3 display at 1920×1080 and 440ppi (the highest pixel density of any smartphone at launch), a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 APQ8064 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage (11GB usable), Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 4+, an 8-megapixel f/2.0 rear camera with HTC ImageChip and 1080p video, a 2.1-megapixel 88-degree wide-angle front camera with 1080p video, Beats Audio with separate speaker and headphone amplifiers, NFC, MHL-HDMI, Bluetooth 4.0 aptX, embedded wireless charging, a 2020mAh non-removable battery, and dual-microphone noise cancellation.
The display featured an 80-degree viewing angle, compared to 30 degrees reported on the Galaxy S III. The device was also thinner than Samsung’s flagship. HTC’s Sightseeing mode launched the camera directly from the power button; the front camera’s wide angle ensured no one got cut out of video calls. The black-and-red color scheme was inspired by Lamborghini.
