Verizon confirmed the Motorola XOOM would go on sale February 24 at $599.99 with a new two-year agreement, or $799.99 without a contract. The tablet would launch on 3G but be upgradeable to 4G LTE in Q2 2011 at no charge to the consumer. Data plans started at $20 per month for 1GB.
The XOOM was the first device to run Android 3.0 Honeycomb and had won the CNET Best of Show award at CES 2011. Key hardware included a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 10.1-inch widescreen HD display, a front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video chat, and a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video. The tablet also supported full tabbed browsing, Adobe Flash Player, and the full suite of Honeycomb’s UI improvements including enhanced multitasking, widgets, and notifications.
