T-Mobile and Samsung formally announced the Sidekick 4G, bringing the iconic brand back as an Android-powered 4G device. Looking like a blend of the Nexus S and the original Sidekick, it featured a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a front-facing camera, and support for up to 21Mbps download speeds on T-Mobile’s 4G network.
Like many Sidekick models before it, the Sidekick 4G offered a five-row QWERTY keyboard with a “pop-tilt” hinge mechanism. The device ran Android 2.2 and came preloaded with Qik Video Chat, Facebook, Twitter, a Media Room entertainment hub, and T-Mobile’s DriveSmart distracted driving prevention service. Two color options: matte black and pearl magenta.
The Sidekick 4G was expected to be available exclusively on T-Mobile later that spring.
