Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 at CTIA in Orlando. Both were 8.6mm thin, making them the thinnest mobile tablets available at the time. They had been first shown at Mobile World Congress but received their official US announcement here.
Both tablets shared the same core specs: a 1GHz dual-core processor, Android 3.0 Honeycomb with Samsung’s TouchWiz UX, a 3-megapixel rear camera with flash, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, HSPA+ up to 21Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, and Samsung’s suite of content apps including Readers Hub (2.2 million books, 2,000 newspapers, 2,300 magazines), Music Hub (13 million songs), and Social Hub for unified email, messaging, and social networking. Both supported 1080p HD video playback and Adobe Flash 10.2.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 featured a 10.1-inch WXGA 1280×800 display, weighed 595g, and came in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB configurations with a microSD slot. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 featured an 8.9-inch WXGA 1280×800 display and weighed 470g, with the same storage options. Battery capacity was 6800mAh on the 10.1 and 6000mAh on the 8.9.
