Samsung confirmed the Galaxy Note 10.1 for US retail on August 16th, starting at $499 for 16GB and $549 for 32GB. Available in white or dark gray at Best Buy, Amazon, Tiger Direct, HH Gregg, CDW, BrandSmart, Conn’s, and Fry’s.
Key specs: a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB or 32GB storage with microSD expansion, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The S Pen featured 1,024 levels of sensitivity; removing it activated a quick-access taskbar for S Pen apps.
The standout feature was Multiscreen, allowing two apps to run side-by-side simultaneously on the same display. Apps supported at launch included S Note, Internet Browser, Video Player, Email, Gallery, and Polaris Office. Users could capture content from one app and drag it to the other. Pop Up Play (video in a floating resizable window) carried over from the Galaxy S III.
S Note combined handwritten notes, sketches, and digital content in templates, with Shape Match for converting hand-drawn shapes into clean vector versions and Formula Match for solving handwritten equations. Adobe Photoshop Touch (normally $9.99) came preloaded and was optimized for S Pen pressure sensitivity. A 50GB Dropbox subscription (two-year free) and Peel Smart Remote via built-in IR emitter were also included.
