Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Lineup Goes Three-Wide With a New Ultra Model

Samsung has introduced its 2026 foldable lineup, expanding the Galaxy Z family to three models: the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. Each takes a different approach, ranging from lighter everyday use to large-screen productivity and compact, cover-screen interactions. All three phones are available for preorder in select markets.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Puts Portability Ahead of Maximum Hardware

The Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs 201 grams, making it Samsung’s lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date. Its 10:16 outer display is intended to feel closer to a conventional smartphone screen, while the unfolded 4:3 panel is shaped for video, games, reading, and split-screen use.

Samsung says the phone uses a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor and a 4,800mAh battery. The main display can reach up to 3,000 nits, supported by Vision Booster and a low-reflection finish.

A new Flex Titanium display structure combines a titanium-alloy film with a reinforced plate. Samsung claims the design improves pressure resistance, supports a thinner chassis, and helps reduce crease visibility over time. Those durability claims will need real-world testing, since foldable hinges and inner screens have a habit of turning marketing promises into long-term science experiments.

The Fold8 includes 50-megapixel wide and ultrawide cameras. Dual Recording can capture footage from two perspectives, while My FanCam automatically follows a selected subject and reframes video for different social formats.

Fold8 Ultra Targets Creators and Heavier Workloads

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra carries Samsung’s higher-end camera and performance ambitions into a foldable body. It has an 8-inch inner display, weighs 215 grams, and measures 4.1mm thick when unfolded.

Its rear camera system includes a 200-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. Samsung has added HDR support to the 200-megapixel mode, improved low-light processing, 8K video capture using the APV codec, and Cine LUT controls for applying color profiles.

The Fold8 Ultra pairs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip with a 5,000mAh battery. It supports 45W wired charging through a dual-path charging system designed to distribute power across the battery more efficiently. An expanded graphite cooling structure is intended to control heat during multitasking, editing, and AI workloads.

Galaxy Z Flip8 Leans Into Quick Access and Camera Tools

The Galaxy Z Flip8 weighs 180 grams and measures 6.1mm thick when open, making it Samsung’s lightest and thinnest Flip model so far.

Its redesigned FlexWindow brings apps, AI tools, notifications, and Samsung’s Now Brief feature to the outer screen. Gemini Intelligence can be activated through the side key or voice commands, allowing supported tasks to run without fully opening the phone.

The Flip8 uses a 50-megapixel main camera supported by Samsung’s ProVisual Engine. Flex Mode allows hands-free shooting, while Camcorder Grip and Zoom Rocker provide physical controls when recording video. Super Steady now includes a Horizontal Lock mode, and the outer display can act as a preview screen for selfies and video.

One UI 9 Expands AI Controls and Cross-Device Sharing

The lineup ships with One UI 9 and an expanded collection of Galaxy AI tools. Now Nudge can suggest follow-up actions based on conversations, while Gemini Intelligence can work across more than 40 supported apps and services.

Samsung has added an AI Assistant Activity dashboard that shows automated actions in one location. Privacy Alerts can warn users about questionable background permission requests, while Knox Vault, Knox Matrix, and encrypted app-specific storage continue to handle device security.

Smart Switch now supports QR-based transfers from iOS without requiring another app. Samsung says it can migrate passwords, passkeys, call history, eSIM information, and accessibility settings. Quick Share is gaining two-way compatibility with AirDrop, which could make moving files between Galaxy devices and Apple hardware far less awkward.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 are offered in Graphite and Cream. Model-specific colors include Violet Shadow, Lavender, and Pink, with separate online-exclusive finishes. Buyers receive six months of Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage. Samsung Care+ customers who purchase through Samsung.com and enroll in a monthly plan receive three months of coverage at no charge.

Pricing and Storage Options

Samsung’s three-model foldable lineup starts at $1,199.99 for the Galaxy Z Flip8 and climbs to $2,699.99 for the 1TB Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra costs $2,099.99 with 256GB of storage, $2,299.99 with 512GB, and $2,699.99 with 1TB.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 is priced at $1,899.99 for 256GB, $2,099.99 for 512GB, and $2,499.99 for 1TB.

The Galaxy Z Flip8 costs $1,199.99 with 256GB of storage and $1,399.99 with 512GB.

That puts only $200 between comparable Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra configurations, which may make the Ultra model the easier upsell for buyers already prepared to spend close to $2,000 on a foldable.
