Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 pair brighter displays and larger batteries with expanded health tracking, a faster Snapdragon Wear platform, and designs intended for continuous wear.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 targets endurance athletes, divers, trail runners, and outdoor users who need rugged hardware. The Galaxy Watch9 takes a broader approach, focusing on everyday activity, sleep, cardiovascular wellness, and recovery insights. Both models are available for preorder in select markets beginning July 22, with general availability scheduled for August 7.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 Adds Trail Running and Diving Tools
The 47mm Galaxy Watch Ultra2 uses a shock-resistant titanium casing and carries IP69K, 10 ATM, and EN13319 certifications. Samsung says it can begin tracking automatically when the wearer enters the water, recording depth, dive time, and water temperature.

A dedicated Ultra2 Diving app is expected later this year. Developed with diving equipment company Mares, the app will add ascent and descent speed tracking, safe dive limits, and other advanced tools.
Trail runners receive detailed information about elevation, climbing progress, and terrain impact. A new Nutrition Alert feature estimates sweat loss relative to body weight and offers guidance about when and how much to drink. That could be useful during long runs, where “drink some water eventually” is not the most scientific hydration plan.
Samsung equipped the Ultra2 with an 800mAh battery, representing a claimed 35 percent capacity increase over the previous Ultra model. Its display can reach 5,000 nits, which should make workout data easier to read in direct sunlight.
Internal changes reduced the watch’s thickness by 12 percent, according to Samsung. Lighter and softer band options are meant to improve comfort during workouts, sleep, and routine daily use.
Galaxy Watch9 Focuses on Everyday Health Tracking
The Galaxy Watch9 comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes with an aluminum casing and Samsung’s familiar cushion-shaped design. The company refined the case for a closer wrist fit and introduced thinner, softer bands aimed at all-day and overnight wear.

Its 390mAh battery supports continuous tracking from daytime activity through sleep. The 3,000-nit display should remain readable outdoors and under bright indoor lighting.
Both watches run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite platform. Samsung says the chip improves speed, efficiency, GPS accuracy, and responsiveness during health monitoring.
New Health Features Turn Readings into Guidance
Samsung’s BioActive sensor collects biometric data and feeds it into a group of AI-powered health features. The goal is to present the wearer with understandable recommendations rather than leaving them to decode a thicket of charts and numbers.
New and expanded features include sleep apnea monitoring backed by FDA clearance, overnight Vitals alerts, a Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load guidance, a Fitness Index, and hearing protection alerts for unsafe noise exposure.
Some health functions may depend on market approval, compatible phones, software versions, and regional availability. Samsung has not detailed every country that will receive each feature at launch.
Sizes, Colors, and Availability
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 will be sold in Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray for $670. The 40mm Galaxy Watch9 comes in Cream and Graphite ($350), while the 44mm model will be available in Graphite and Silver ($480).
Samsung is offering Marine, PeakForm, and Trail bands for the Ultra2. Galaxy Watch9 band choices include Sports, Misty, and Fabric designs.
Each watch includes access to a 60-day Strava trial and a two-month iFIT trial for eligible users.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 preorders begin July 22 in select markets, followed by general availability on August 7.
