Qualcomm’s New Dragonwing Chips Could Make Everyday Smart Devices Smarter

Qualcomm has introduced two new Dragonwing processors designed to bring on-device AI and smarter computing to products ranging from home robots and appliances to factory equipment.

For most consumers, the Dragonwing Q-2390 is the more interesting of the pair. It is designed for connected devices such as smart appliances, home robots, fitness equipment, kiosks, access-control systems, and other commercial and consumer products. The Dragonwing IQ-2390 targets factories, building systems, utilities, and other industrial equipment.

More Intelligence Inside Everyday Devices

The Dragonwing Q-2390 combines several functions manufacturers would otherwise need to handle with separate components.

It supports on-device AI, cameras, displays, LTE Cat 4 connectivity, GPS, wired and wireless connections, security features, and other inputs and outputs.

In practical terms, that could help manufacturers build products that process more information directly on the device. A home robot, appliance, retail terminal, or fitness machine could respond to cameras, sensors, or other data without relying as heavily on cloud processing.

Qualcomm says the integrated design can help manufacturers reduce hardware costs, board space, and development complexity.

The IQ-2390 Is Built for Tougher Jobs

The Dragonwing IQ-2390 takes the same basic idea into industrial settings.

It combines AI processing, machine vision, application computing, and dual Gigabit Ethernet with Time-Sensitive Networking. Qualcomm expects it to appear in equipment such as factory controllers, industrial cameras, building automation systems, gateways, and energy-management hardware.

It is designed to operate between -30°C and +115°C and can handle environments where vibration and shock are concerns.

In other words, this is the Dragonwing chip meant to spend its days around machinery rather than sitting quietly inside a kitchen appliance.

Android, Linux, and Zephyr Are Supported

Both processors feature a quad-core Qualcomm Kryo CPU, Adreno 704 GPU, and a real-time RISC-V microcontroller.

They support Android, Linux, and Zephyr OS, giving manufacturers flexibility in the types of products they can build.

Qualcomm will show Dragonwing Q-2390 and IQ-2390 system-on-modules at IFA 2026. Customers are already working with the platforms through an early-access program, with evaluation kits expected in early 2027.

Pricing has not been announced.
