Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 Platform, a new audio platform built to give earbuds, headphones, audio glasses, and other wearable devices far more room to work with AI.
Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 combines Qualcomm’s premium audio technologies with on-device AI, cloud-connected intelligence, and integrated micro-power Wi-Fi 6E. Qualcomm sees the platform supporting a wider class of intelligent wearables, including devices equipped with cameras that can use visual information to provide context for AI features.
The company points to real-time translation, contextual assistance, personalized hearing, and AI interactions combining audio and vision among the experiences manufacturers could build around the platform.
More AI Processing in a Smaller Package

Qualcomm says Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 delivers up to twice the AI capability of its predecessor while cutting power consumption by up to 40%. Its footprint is up to 30% smaller, giving device makers more flexibility when working within the cramped confines of earbuds, glasses, and similar wearables.
That extra AI capacity allows multiple intelligent features to operate at the same time. Camera-equipped products can use visual input to understand the wearer’s surroundings, for example, rather than relying on the camera primarily for taking photos.
Qualcomm says its research found that up to 70% of users want advanced AI features in wearable devices. Ziad Asghar, senior vice president and general manager of XR, Wearables, and Personal AI at Qualcomm Technologies, said the company expects conversational interaction to become increasingly important as AI moves beyond phones and computer screens.
Micro-power Wi-Fi 6E gives compatible devices a direct path to cloud services through Snapdragon Sound Apps & Agents. That connection can provide access to AI assistants, services, content, and other experiences without restricting the wearable to features permanently baked into its hardware.
What This Means to You
The practical takeaway is that future earbuds and audio glasses could start feeling less like accessories and more like always-ready AI tools. Features such as real-time translation, clearer voice pickup, smarter noise cancellation, and context-aware assistance could happen with less dependence on pulling out a phone.
Qualcomm has supplied the platform, but manufacturers still have to turn those capabilities into products people can buy, wear comfortably, and actually want to use every day.
Audio Gets Smarter, Too
The platform retains several technologies associated with Snapdragon Sound while adding AI-driven audio processing.
Qualcomm aptX Lossless handles high-quality wireless listening, and Qualcomm XPAN is designed to extend wireless audio beyond traditional Bluetooth range.
For calls and voice interaction, Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 includes fifth-generation Qualcomm ANC, Qualcomm cVc technology, and support for advanced multi-microphone configurations. These systems are designed to improve noise cancellation, speech capture, and voice clarity, which becomes particularly useful when a wearable is expected to hear commands accurately in busy environments.
The new Snapdragon Audio Sense Solution pairs microphones with processing algorithms aimed at capturing voices and environmental sounds more clearly. For AI devices that need to understand both the wearer and what is happening nearby, microphone performance becomes part of the intelligence equation rather than simply a phone-call feature.
Earbuds Are Only Part of the Plan

Qualcomm is targeting earbuds, headphones, open-ear and hybrid audio products, camera-equipped earbuds, audio glasses, and future multimodal wearable designs. Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 reference designs will give manufacturers a starting point for prototyping and developing products around the platform.
At Snapdragon Summit 2026, Cleer showed an early concept built on a Snapdragon Sound platform that combines audio, vision, and AI. The demonstration offered a glimpse at how future wearables could use what they hear and see to provide more context-aware assistance.
Qualcomm has not provided pricing or release dates for consumer products based on Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2. Those details will come from individual hardware manufacturers as devices reach the market.
