MediaTek has announced the release of the Dimensity 9300+, a significant upgrade in their flagship mobile chip lineup. This new chipset enhances the performance of flagship smartphones, particularly in running generative AI applications and large language models (LLMs) directly on devices.
The Dimensity 9300+ not only improves upon its predecessor with faster clock speeds but also introduces advanced features to boost AI processing capabilities. The chip’s enhanced support for LLMs is a standout, designed to facilitate a more responsive AI experience.
According to JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek, the Dimensity 9300+ leverages MediaTek’s new NeuroPilot Speculative Decode Acceleration technology. This enables the chip to process AI tasks more efficiently, significantly accelerating the inference times of LLMs. The chip can handle models with up to 33 billion parameters, making it robust for a variety of AI applications.
Featuring an All-Big-Core architecture and built on the 3rd generation TSMC 4nm process, the chip includes one Arm Cortex-X4 core peaking at 3.4 GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. This setup provides substantial improvements in processing power and energy efficiency.
For gamers, the Dimensity 9300+ comes equipped with a second-generation hardware ray tracing engine and an Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU. This combination delivers smooth 60 FPS ray tracing and console-grade illumination effects in games. MediaTek’s HyperEngine technologies further enhance the gaming experience by optimizing power efficiency and network connectivity.
The chipset also features the MediaTek Imagiq 990 ISP for advanced imaging capabilities. It supports 18-bit RAW processing for superior photo and video quality in various lighting conditions. The built-in AI Semantic Analysis Video Engine pushes the boundaries of AI-enhanced videography, offering features like scene segmentation and real-time video capture adjustments.
The Dimensity 9300+ also introduces an improved MediaTek MiraVision 990 display technology, enhancing content viewing on smartphones with AI-driven image enhancements.
In terms of connectivity, the chipset includes a 5G R16 modem with AI situational awareness, supporting high-speed mobile data transmission and efficient network management for enhanced power and data savings.
With these enhancements, the Dimensity 9300+ positions itself as a potent chip choice for the next generation of smartphones, especially those focusing on AI and gaming capabilities.
