LG announced the Optimus 3D Max at MWC, the successor to the Optimus 3D. Launching first in Korea in March before rolling out to Europe and other markets, it arrived on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with an Ice Cream Sandwich update planned shortly after launch. A US successor to the LG Thrill 4G was anticipated for later in the spring.
Key specs: a 1.2GHz dual-core OMAP4430 processor, a 4.3-inch 3D WVGA display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2, 8GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, a 5-megapixel dual-lens camera, HSPA+ 21Mbps, HDMI up to 1080p via MHL, DLNA (including 3D video), NFC with LG Tag+, and a 1520mAh battery.
Notable features included an HD Converter for transforming OpenGL-based 2D games and apps to 3D via MHL-connected TV, a 3D Hot Key for toggling between 2D and 3D modes, enhanced Google Earth and Maps 3D conversion, and a 3D Zone on LG SmartWorld for content and apps. At 9.6mm thin and 148g, it was slimmer and lighter than its predecessor.
