Google Family Link Expands Supervision Tools for Parents

Google Family Link Expands Supervision Tools for Parents

Google is rolling out new updates to Google Family Link, offering parents enhanced tools to manage their children’s devices and online experiences. With a redesigned interface, new screen time controls, and expanded supervision options, Family Link aims to make digital parenting easier and more effective.

A More Intuitive Family Link Experience

The latest Family Link update introduces a refreshed design, making it easier for parents to navigate and manage settings. The new Screen Time tab consolidates all screen-time controls into one place, allowing parents to set limits, track usage, and adjust Downtime and School time settings seamlessly.

The Controls tab has also been overhauled, giving parents quicker access to account management, content filters, and privacy settings. With simplified tools, parents can easily approve app downloads, block websites, and adjust data-sharing preferences—all from a single interface.

For those managing multiple children’s devices, Family Link now allows parents to swipe between profiles effortlessly, making it simpler to monitor and adjust settings for each child without juggling multiple screens.

School Time Expands to Android

After launching School time on Fitbit Ace LTE and Samsung Galaxy Watch for Kids, Google is extending the feature to Android phones and tablets. This mode helps minimize distractions during school hours by restricting certain apps and silencing notifications.

Parents can customize which apps remain accessible, ensuring children can still use essential tools for studying while keeping entertainment apps off-limits during class. The new Break feature allows for scheduled exceptions—perfect for recess, lunch breaks, or special events.

Parent-Managed Contacts Coming Soon

Supervised messaging is getting an upgrade. Soon, parents will be able to approve and manage their child’s contacts directly from Family Link on Android phones. This means parents can control who their children can call or text, ensuring that only approved contacts are accessible. Kids can also request to add new contacts, giving parents the final say before any new numbers are added.

Making Digital Parenting Easier

With these updates, Google Family Link continues to provide parents with smarter ways to manage their child’s digital life, balancing safety, supervision, and independence. To learn more about these new features and how they can help families navigate the online world, visit families.google.
