Google today introduced Googlebook, a new category of laptop designed from the ground up for Gemini Intelligence. The announcement marks a shift from the Chromebook era, positioning computing as an evolution from operating system to intelligence system.
Googlebook combines Chrome, Google Play apps, and a modern OS built for AI-first experiences. The platform is optimized for seamless integration with Android devices and powered by what Google describes as premium hardware. The company shared a preview of the Googlebook experience and plans to release more details later this year.
Magic Pointer and Custom Widgets
At the center of the Googlebook experience is Magic Pointer, a feature developed with the Google DeepMind team that brings Gemini assistance directly to the cursor. Users can wiggle the cursor to activate contextual suggestions. Pointing at a date in an email sets up a meeting, while selecting two images like a living room and a new couch instantly visualizes them together.

Create Your Widget allows users to build custom widgets through natural language prompts. Gemini can search the internet or connect Google apps like Gmail and Calendar to create personalized dashboards. Planning a family reunion in Berlin? Gemini can organize flight and hotel information, restaurant reservations, and a countdown in a single desktop widget.
Android Ecosystem Integration
Googlebook is built for seamless compatibility with Android phones. Users can run phone apps directly on the laptop without downloading or dealing with emulated touchscreen controls. Hungry while working? Tap a phone app to place an order. Get a Duolingo reminder? Complete the lesson without leaving the laptop screen.

Quick Access enables users to view, search, or insert files from their phone directly in the Googlebook file browser with no transfers required.
Premium Hardware and Design
Google is partnering with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to manufacture the first Googlebooks. Every device will feature premium craftsmanship and materials, available in a variety of shapes and sizes. Googlebooks will be identifiable by a unique glowbar, described as both functional and beautiful.
Availability
Googlebook devices will become available this fall. More details can be found at googlebook.com.
