Android 17 Introduces Creator-Focused Tools with Screen Reactions and Instagram Enhancements

Google today announced Android 17, an update focused on content creators with new tools for capturing, editing, and sharing video. The release includes deeper social media integrations, AI-powered editing features, and optimizations designed to reduce screen time while keeping creators present in the moment.

Screen Reactions

Screen Reactions makes it easier to create reaction videos without switching apps or setting up a green screen. With a few taps, users can record themselves and their screen simultaneously, overlaying authentic responses directly onto trending clips, comment sections, or gift guides. The feature will roll out first on Pixel devices this summer.

Instagram Enhancements

Google partnered with Meta to bring advanced Instagram features to flagship Android devices. The integration includes Ultra HDR capture and playback for vibrant colors, built-in video stabilization for smooth footage, and Night Sight integrations for low-light photography.

Google optimized the capture-to-upload pipeline to preserve photo and video quality when posting. Recent side-by-side tests using the Universal Video Quality (UVQ) model, an AI framework designed to measure perceived video quality, confirm that video captured and uploaded to Instagram from Android flagship devices scores the same or better than the leading competitor.

Edits App Upgrades

Instagram’s Edits app is receiving new tools exclusively on Android. Smart enhance uses on-device AI to upscale photos and videos with a single tap. Sound separation identifies and separates audio tracks for wind, noise, and music, allowing users to boost desired sounds and remove unwanted audio without multiple retakes.

Professional Video Tools

Instagram is now fully optimized for Android tablets, taking advantage of large-screen real estate for creators who prefer a larger canvas.

Adobe Premiere is coming to Android this summer with access to exclusive templates and effects for creating and posting YouTube Shorts directly from the app.

APV (Advanced Professional Video), co-developed with Samsung, is now available as the industry’s most storage-efficient professional video format built for mobile creators. The format is available on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and vivo X300 Ultra, with more Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered flagship devices to follow later this year.
