JBL has unveiled the Pulse 6, its latest portable Bluetooth speaker, bringing together upgraded audio performance, a more expressive 360-degree lightshow, and new connected features aimed at parties, patios, and quieter nights in alike. Announced by HARMAN in Stamford, Connecticut, the JBL Pulse 6 continues the brand’s long-running formula of pairing music with visual flair, this time with a brighter personality and a few smarter tricks.
Bigger Sound, Brighter Presence
At its core, the JBL Pulse 6 is a compact portable speaker designed to deliver music on the go, but it clearly wants to be more than background audio. JBL says the speaker combines its “Legendary Sound” with AI Sound Boost, which analyzes music in real time to improve acoustic performance while reducing distortion. The company also highlights an enhanced acoustic design intended to produce more natural, balanced sound and deeper bass.
Visually, the Pulse 6 leans into its name. The speaker features a customizable 360-degree choreographed lightshow and an integrated illuminated handle, giving it a distinctive look while making it easier to carry from room to room. In short, it is a speaker that does not mind being the center of attention, and probably prefers it that way.
New Lighting Modes And Everyday Features
JBL is adding more ways to tailor the Pulse 6 experience beyond simply pressing play. The speaker includes 16 total light themes, split between 10 ambient themes and 6 party themes. Ambient options include Universe, Firefly, Sea, Campfire, Aurora, Blossom, Cheers, Storm, Sky, and Hover. Party themes include Neon, Loop, Bounce, Trim, Switch, and Freeze.
Through the JBL One app, users can further customize party and ambient themes, tweak EQ settings, activate Sunset Mode, and pair lighting with mood-setting sounds. Sunset Mode gradually dims the speaker’s lighting over a selected countdown period, while a new Bedside Lamp feature can be activated with a quick double tap for a softer nighttime glow. It is a party speaker, yes, but apparently one that also knows when to lower the volume, literally and figuratively.
Built For Group Listening
JBL is also positioning the Pulse 6 as part of a broader connected ecosystem. Auracast multi-speaker connectivity allows the speaker to connect with other compatible JBL speakers for a larger shared soundstage, and stereo pairing is supported as well. The Pulse 6 can also synchronize both sound and lighting with compatible JBL PartyBox speakers and the JBL PartyLight Stick, creating a more coordinated audio-visual setup for larger gatherings.
Other features include Bluetooth 6.0, lossless audio playback via USB-C, and support for an easy karaoke setup with the JBL EasySing Mic Mini.
Battery Life, Durability, Price, And Availability
The JBL Pulse 6 offers up to 12 hours of battery life and carries an IP68 rating for waterproof and dustproof protection, making it better suited for outdoor use and the occasional splash than many mood lights with musical ambitions. JBL also says the speaker is made with recycled materials, including 93% recycled metal on the handle.
