TCL Home Security has introduced the TCL D2 Pro Matter Palm Vein Smart Lock, an updated version of its contactless smart lock with support for Matter over Thread, broader smart home compatibility, and a new Local Mode for users who want tighter control over connectivity.
Priced at $199.99, the D2 Pro Matter became available on August 17, 2026. It combines palm vein recognition with several familiar entry methods, including PIN codes, NFC cards, app control, and a physical key.
Matter Support Brings Broader Smart Home Compatibility
The main change is Matter over Thread, which gives the D2 Pro Matter support for several major smart home platforms.
According to TCL, the lock works with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Apple Home. That should make it easier to add the lock to an existing connected-home setup without building around a single ecosystem.
Built-in Wi-Fi supports remote access and real-time notifications without requiring a separate Wi-Fi bridge.
Palm Vein Recognition Handles Contactless Entry
The D2 Pro Matter uses infrared light to identify the vein pattern beneath a registered user’s skin. TCL says the lock can recognize a palm in as little as 0.3 seconds, allowing users to open the door with a wave rather than entering a code or pulling out a phone.
The company says the recognition system is designed to operate with wet or dirty hands and under varied lighting conditions, including direct sunlight and darkness.
Palm vein information is stored locally on the lock rather than relying on cloud storage for biometric data.
Local Mode Cuts the Wi-Fi Connection
TCL has added a dedicated Local Mode for people who prefer to keep the lock off Wi-Fi.
With Wi-Fi disabled, users can continue managing the D2 Pro Matter through a direct Bluetooth connection in the TCL Home app. That includes enrolling new users and making local changes without keeping the lock connected to the internet.
Local Mode is separate from local biometric storage. The former controls the lock’s network connection, while the latter determines where palm vein data resides.
Multiple Ways to Get Through the Door
Beyond palm recognition, the D2 Pro Matter supports PIN codes, NFC cards, app-based access, and a physical key backup. Auto-Unlock can provide hands-free entry when an authorized user arrives home, while Auto-Lock can secure the door automatically after it closes.
That mix gives households several options for family members, guests, or situations where waving at the front door feels a little too much like casting a spell.
Battery, Weather Resistance, and Availability
The lock uses a 10,000mAh rechargeable battery and includes USB-C emergency power as a backup option. TCL gives the exterior portion an IP55 rating for protection against dust, rain, and splashes.
