ASUS ROG Kithara: Audiophile Gaming Headset Collab with HIFIMAN

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has officially launched the ROG Kithara, marking the brand’s first foray into the open-back planar magnetic headset market. Debuting at CES 2026, the Kithara is engineered to bridge the gap between audiophile-grade hardware and competitive gaming peripherals, focusing on high-resolution clarity and spatial realism.

Precision Engineering via HIFIMAN Collaboration

Developed through a strategic partnership with audio pioneers HIFIMAN, the Kithara utilizes massive 100 mm planar magnetic drivers. These components are specifically calibrated for gaming environments, delivering a sprawling frequency response range of 8 Hz to 55 kHz. This technical profile minimizes harmonic distortion, ensuring that micro-details—such as environmental reloads and directional footsteps—remain distinct even amidst the high-frequency chaos of explosive gameplay.

Expansive Spatial Audio and Open-Back Design

Moving away from the traditional closed-back isolation found in most gaming gear, the Kithara employs a crafted open-back architecture. This design choice fosters a more natural sound-stage, allowing for precise imaging and a clear separation between bass, mid-range, and treble frequencies. The result is heightened spatial awareness, providing players with a tactical advantage through more accurate positional audio cues.

Advanced Communication and Signal Integrity

To facilitate professional-grade communication, the headset features a full-band MEMS boom microphone. With a 20 Hz to 20 kHz response and a high signal-to-noise ratio, the microphone is designed for vocal clarity. To prevent interference, ASUS has implemented isolated signal paths for the audio and microphone inputs, effectively eliminating crosstalk during high-stakes multiplayer sessions.

Versatility and Hardware Compatibility

Despite its high-end specifications, the Kithara remains highly accessible across various platforms. With a low impedance of 16 ohms, the headset is easily powered by standard devices without the strict necessity of an external amplifier. The package includes a balanced cable system with interchangeable 4.4 mm, 3.5 mm, and 6.3 mm plugs, alongside a USB-C adapter, ensuring seamless connectivity with PCs, consoles, and dedicated DACs.

Ergonomics and Long-Form Comfort

Constructed with a durable metal frame, the Kithara features an eight-level adjustable fit and a multi-layered padded headband to accommodate extended use. Users can further customize their experience with two sets of interchangeable ear cushions, which allow for slight adjustments to both the physical fit and the underlying acoustic signature of the headset.

Market Availability

The ROG Kithara is available with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $299 on the official ASUS website. The unit will be available through major electronics retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, and MicroCenter.
