Hands-On: ROG Cetra Open Wireless

The ROG Cetra Open Wireless is ASUS ROG’s entry into open-ear gaming audio, priced at $230. These are their first open-ear earbuds built specifically for gaming, combining an over-ear hook design with a 2.4GHz low-latency dongle, Bluetooth 6.0, and 64 hours of total battery life.

What It Is

The Cetra Open Wireless rest on the outside of the ear rather than sealing the canal, keeping you aware of your surroundings during long gaming sessions. The 2.4GHz USB-C dongle connects to PS5, PC, and most USB-C devices for low-latency performance. Bluetooth 6.0 covers everything else. Dual connectivity lets you stay connected to two devices at once.

Key Features

14.2mm DLC Drivers use diamond-like carbon diaphragms to deliver detailed mids and clean highs, with Phantom Bass and Immersion Mode available through the Gear Link app for expanded sound customization.

2.4GHz ROG SpeedNova Dongle provides ultra-low latency wireless connection for gaming, with a USB-C passthrough port built in. The dongle stores in its own pocket inside the charging case.

64-Hour Total Battery Life breaks down to 16 hours per charge from the earbuds and 48 hours in the case.

ROG Gear Link is available as a browser-based web app or mobile app, covering EQ, RGB lighting, audio modes, and firmware updates.

RGB Lighting can be customized across multiple effects or disabled entirely to save battery and reduce visual footprint outside of gaming sessions.

Who It’s For

The Cetra Open Wireless are for gamers who find traditional earbuds or over-ear headsets uncomfortable during extended sessions, players who want clear in-game communication without ear fatigue, and anyone who wants to stay aware of their real-world surroundings while gaming. Note that Xbox consoles are not supported.

If comfort during long gaming sessions is the priority, the ROG Cetra Open Wireless at $230 are among some of the only open-ear gaming earbuds on the market right now.
