XREAL is expanding its augmented reality portfolio with the introduction of X By XREAL, a new sub-brand designed to make AR glasses more accessible to a wider audience. Alongside the brand launch, the company unveiled its first product under the new banner: the a01, a lightweight pair of AR glasses focused on entertainment, gaming, and everyday media consumption.
The new X By XREAL brand, abbreviated as xbx, centers around creativity, self-expression, and what the company calls a simple mission: “Just Play.” The goal is to bring core AR experiences to more consumers through products that are easier to approach, easier to wear, and easier on the wallet.
Designed for Personal Style and Everyday Use
One of the standout features of the a01 is its interchangeable front-frame system. Users can swap front panels to match their style, outfit, or mood, creating a level of personalization that feels closer to eyewear than traditional tech hardware.

The glasses feature a semi-transparent design and borrow display dimming technology from XREAL’s flagship products. This allows users to switch between more transparent viewing modes and immersive entertainment experiences. XREAL says users can even create their own custom front-frame accessories through 3D printing, opening the door for a bit of maker-community creativity.
At 62 grams, the a01 is positioned as one of the lightest products in its category. The company says it achieved this weight through a combination of custom lightweight materials, thinner lenses, and redesigned hinges and temple structures.
A Bright Display Built for Entertainment
Display quality remains a major focus for XREAL. The a01 features a claimed 1600-nit HDR10-capable display, which the company describes as the brightest in its class. Fourteen brightness levels allow users to adapt the experience to different environments.

The glasses use dual-layer MicroOLED displays and support HDR10 content with more than one billion colors. XREAL has included real-time AI-powered SDR-to-HDR conversion, aiming to improve contrast and color presentation across a broader range of content.
According to the company, the display creates the equivalent of a 147-inch screen viewed from four meters away, making the a01 well suited for movies, streaming content, gaming, and other media experiences. For smartphone users, handheld gaming enthusiasts, and frequent travelers, that effectively turns a pocket-sized device into a personal big-screen theater.
Anti-Shake Technology Targets Travel and Commuting
XREAL is highlighting what it describes as an industry-first spatial anti-shake algorithm. The feature is designed to reduce image movement during travel without introducing the blur or color degradation commonly associated with traditional stabilization techniques.

The company says the technology is particularly useful during subway rides, train commutes, and flights, helping maintain a stable viewing experience when the world around the user is doing its best impression of a paint shaker.
Pricing and Availability
The X By XREAL a01 is available now in China. XREAL expects the AR glasses to launch in the United States in July with a starting price of $299.
The launch gives XREAL a new entry point into the AR market, targeting consumers who may be curious about augmented reality but have not yet made the jump into the category. With a focus on lightweight design, personalization, and entertainment, the a01 appears aimed at making that first step into AR feel a little less intimidating and a lot more fun.
