ShiftCam Gear is expanding its mobile photography lineup with the X.Series SuperZoom Telephoto Lenses, a new pair of smartphone lenses designed to push periscope-equipped cameras much farther than their built-in optics can reach. The company is pairing the hardware with a new ShiftCam One iOS app and a redesigned ProRig filmmaking system.
The X.Series lineup consists of 2x and 3.5x SuperZoom Telephoto Lenses. Using the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max 100mm periscope camera as its reference point, ShiftCam says the lenses can produce roughly 200mm-class and 350mm-class perspectives.
That gives mobile photographers considerably more room to work with distant subjects without leaning as heavily on digital cropping. Sports, wildlife, street photography, architecture, and faraway details are the obvious targets here.
Two SuperZoom Options
The 2x SuperZoom Telephoto Lens uses a five-element, four-group optical design and weighs 140 grams. It is priced at $269.90 in the US and €289.99 in Europe.
The larger 3.5x model steps up to a 12-element, six-group design and weighs 190 grams. Pricing comes in at $369.90 and €399.99.
Both mount over a compatible smartphone’s periscope camera and work with ShiftCam’s Adapt System, which supports quick changes between compatible filters, macro converters, and mounts.
Each lens ships with a lens cap, pouch, and cleaning cloth. Pre-sales began August 25, with the official launch scheduled for September 8.
ShiftCam One Handles More of the Camera Work
ShiftCam is pairing the new lenses with ShiftCam One, a free iOS app for lens owners arriving September 8.
The app can recognize compatible ShiftCam lenses after one-time pairing and sensor calibration, then configure features based on the attached optics. AutoSteady is intended to help with telephoto shooting, for instance, and fisheye users get real-time curvature control.
ShiftCam One includes an AutoStudio feature that lets users describe the look or mood they want rather than manually adjusting a stack of editing controls. ShiftCam says on-device AI can then suggest changes involving composition, lighting, crops, tones, and styles.
The app collects lens-specific albums, gear management, tutorials, registration, and warranty support in one place too. In practical terms, ShiftCam appears to be trying to make its growing accessory catalog less intimidating for photographers who know the shot they want but do not particularly want homework first.
A Redesigned ProRig Arrives This Fall
ShiftCam is giving IFA attendees an early look at its redesigned ProRig mobile filmmaking system ahead of its fall release.
The $159 ProRig Essentials Kit uses a four-corner frame that leaves the phone’s buttons, USB-C port, back panel, and MagSafe area accessible. Repositionable quick-release handles support portrait and horizontal setups, with cold shoes and mounting points available for microphones, lights, and other accessories.
Its recycled aluminum frame works with replaceable phone-specific bumper inserts, allowing users to change phones without replacing the entire rig.
