A popular chipset maker, Qualcomm has officially introduced its new Snapdragon 4S Gen 2 (SM4635) chipset for budget-range smartphones. Qualcomm’s latest affordable 5G chipset is forged on an efficient 4nm process node that enhances power savings for all-day smartphone use.
The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 houses 2 x Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and 6 x Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz, at the core. The chipset is paired with an Adreno GPU, the same LPDDR4X RAM, and upgraded UFS 3.1 memory offering faster data processing, app usage, and overall performance. The chipset isn’t a successor to last year’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, since Qualcomm downclocked all eight cores by 200MHz compared to the former.
The platform also comes with a slower 5G modem RF system rated at a maximum of 1Gbps download speeds. The 5G Modem-RF system delivers system-wide optimizations with greater efficiency making 5G accessible to more users worldwide, said Qualcomm in its release. The SD 4S Gen 2 also supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth v5.1 connectivity.
The chipset supports an FHD+ display and a 90Hz refresh rate, for smoother scrolling and streaming experience. Additionally, Qualcomm also packs its in-house Aqustic audio codec support, providing authentic, detailed high-res audio and AI-based echo and noise suppression for reducing background noise in noisy environments. Camera support tops out up to 84MP main camera sensors for great detail and clarity. The chipset also gets Qualcomm Spectra Dual 12-bit ISP for capturing concurrent photos and videos with image stabilization support.
Xiaomi has officially confirmed that it will launch its first Snapdragon 4S Gen 2-powered smartphone later this year.
