Chinese handset maker Huawei came to Barcelona not just to observe, but to announce. They pulled the curtain back on four brand new Android handsets: the U8300, U8100, U8110, and U8800. In addition, they also announced an Android-based internet device, the SmaKit S7. Here’s a quick look at each.
U8300
The U8300 is targeted at the youth market, integrates social networking tools like Facebook and Twitter, features a QWERTY keypad, and is designed to allow for comfortable chatting and texting. It came in three bright colors: green, yellow, and purple.
U8100 and U8110
The U8100 and U8110 are the same phone on the inside, with slightly different exterior designs appealing to different audiences. Both are entry-level handsets featuring 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreens, a 0.3-megapixel front camera, and a 3.2-megapixel rear camera. Both models were expected in Europe sometime in Q2 2010.
U8800
The high-end U8800 runs Android 2.1, offers support for HSPA+ (14 Mbps download), a 3.8-inch screen, and more. With the right network under ideal conditions, this phone could download a 400MB feature-length movie file in under half a minute. Carrier, pricing, and availability details were not yet available.
SmaKit S7
Huawei also introduced their first Android-based internet device, the SmaKit S7. Featuring a 7-inch widescreen (800×480 resolution), it was designed to support content sharing across screens including computers, mobile phones, and TVs. The SmaKit S7 could connect to a home gateway, television, and Android handset.
