DuRoBo has announced the commercial availability of its Krono ePaper Focus Hub, marking the company’s first consumer hardware device to reach market. The AI-powered reading and productivity device will launch in the United States and mainland Europe later this month, priced at $279.99 in the US and €279.99 in Europe.
Beyond Traditional eReaders
The Krono positions itself as more than a standard eReader, functioning as what DuRoBo calls an “AI-powered ePaper hub for focus and creativity.” The device features a 6.13-inch Carta 1200 HD display with 300 PPI resolution, 128GB of storage, and runs on an open Android system designed to blend the visual comfort of paper with digital flexibility.
What distinguishes the Krono from conventional eReaders is its unique Smart Dial control system—a single, rotating interface that serves as the device’s primary navigation tool. Users can press and hold the dial to activate voice notes with optional AI summaries, or use it to navigate menus and adjust settings with what DuRoBo describes as “satisfying precision.”
The device extends beyond traditional reading to support voice capture for dictating ideas and podcast listening, positioning it as a versatile tool for content consumption and creation rather than just book reading.
Design Philosophy Meets Open Source Flexibility
DuRoBo has emphasized the Krono’s minimalist industrial design and portability, creating a device that transitions seamlessly between different environments—from home offices to daily commutes. The open-source Android foundation allows the device to evolve with user needs over time, a notable departure from the typically closed ecosystems of major eReader manufacturers.
“Krono was created for thinkers and creators who crave mental clarity,” said a DuRoBo spokesperson. “By combining thoughtful design, open software, and intelligent assistance, we’re giving people a new kind of digital space—one that helps them focus, reflect, and create without distractions.”
This philosophy reflects DuRoBo’s broader mission as a company focused on building tools for mindful technology use, helping individuals “think deeply and create freely through beautifully crafted, intelligent devices.”
Launch Details and Companion Accessories
The Krono will be available for purchase directly through DuRoBo.com starting in late January. Early buyers will receive a complimentary protective case with their purchase, adding value to the $279.99 price point.
DuRoBo has also introduced a new lineup of accessories to complement the device launch. Beyond the included protective cases, the company is offering a Bluetooth Remote designed specifically for effortless page turning and menu navigation—a feature that could appeal to users who want to maintain their reading flow without direct device interaction.
Carving Out a Unique Market Position
The Krono’s entry into the ePaper market takes an interesting approach. Rather than competing directly with established eReader brands on traditional features like library integration or reading speed, DuRoBo appears to be targeting users seeking a more holistic digital thinking and creativity tool.
This positioning could appeal to professionals, students, and creative individuals who want a distraction-free device that goes beyond simple book consumption to support note-taking, voice capture, and focused productivity work.
CES 2026 Showcase
For those interested in experiencing the device firsthand, DuRoBo will be showcasing the Krono and its accessories at CES 2026, where attendees can test the device’s unique interface and AI-powered features.
The launch represents an intriguing entry point for DuRoBo into the consumer electronics market, with the Krono’s combination of AI integration, open-source flexibility, and focus-oriented design potentially carving out a distinct niche in the growing ePaper device category.
