Chrome for Android Gets Gemini Assistant and Auto Browse in June

Google next month will introduce new AI features in Chrome for Android, bringing Gemini-powered browsing assistance to mobile devices. Built on Gemini 3.1, the update includes a personal browsing assistant, on-device image customization, and auto-browse capabilities designed to handle tedious tasks.

Personal Browsing Assistant

Gemini in Chrome on Android acts as an AI browsing assistant that understands the content of the page being viewed. Clicking the Gemini icon in the top right of the toolbar opens Gemini at the bottom of the display, allowing users to ask questions about the current webpage, summarize long articles, or get detailed explanations for complex topics without switching apps.

The assistant connects with Google apps to perform tasks like adding events to Calendar, dropping recipe ingredients into Keep, or finding specific information in Gmail. Users who opt into Personal Intelligence receive responses tailored to their interests, hobbies, family, and pets. All context-aware assistance is designed to respect privacy and keep users in control.

Nano Banana for Image Customization

Nano Banana enables on-device visual creation and image customization directly in Chrome. Students studying for exams can ask the browser to turn a webpage into an infographic. Users browsing apartment listings can request that an image be altered to show how a room would look furnished with modern living room essentials.

Auto Browse for Task Automation

Auto browse makes its debut on Android, handling tedious tasks so users can focus on priorities. Running late to a standup comedy show and forgot to reserve parking? Auto browse can use event details from a ticket confirmation to find a parking spot with SpotHero. Need to switch from puppy food to dog food on Chewy? Chrome can handle the order update.

Auto browse is built with the same security protections offered on desktop, defending against emerging threats like prompt injection. The feature asks for confirmation before completing sensitive tasks like making purchases or posting on social media.

Availability

Gemini in Chrome will roll out to select devices running Android 12 or higher in the U.S. starting at the end of June. Auto browse will be available to all AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S. with select devices running Android 12 or higher. Both features require devices with 4GB of RAM or more and language set to English-US.
