AI, Immersive Entertainment, and Design: Philips Hue Expands Smart Lighting Capabilities

Signify has revealed a major overhaul of its Philips Hue lineup, combining natural-language artificial intelligence, cross-brand hardware compatibility, and expanded home theater options. The late-2026 update emphasizes seamless home automation alongside new design-centric hardware.

Generative AI and Cloud Safeguards

Heading the software rollout is “Custom AI Behaviors,” a Bridge Pro feature that translates plain English prompts into multi-trigger lighting scenes. Users can prompt the ecosystem to adapt lighting based on ambient daylight, specific days of the week, or media playback without manually tweaking complex app logic.

Signify is also rolling out a long-awaited Back-up and Restore feature to save layouts, light configurations, and automation profiles directly to the cloud. Additionally, a new native Sonos integration enables users to control audio playlists, volume, and playback straight from Philips Hue physical switches like the Tap Dial.

Ecosystem Crossovers and Screen Syncing

In a major ecosystem shift, Signify is breaking down brand walls through a partnership with Nanoleaf. Using the new Philips Hue Wall Light Module, select Nanoleaf Shapes (including Hexagons and Triangles) can now be integrated directly into Hue scenes, automations, and entertainment zones.

For home theater setups, the platform introduces two hardware sync solutions:

  • Philips Hue Play Screen Sync: A camera-based fisheye solution mounted to the display that captures real-time colors from native smart TV apps, set-top boxes, or broadcast feeds.
  • Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 4K: A single-cable pass-through box catering to standard 4K streaming and gaming consoles.

Both systems support direct Bluetooth pairing with updated, cuttable Hue Play gradient strip lights—which now fit displays up to 100 inches—allowing users to set up synchronized bias lighting without purchasing a Hue Bridge right away. To showcase these entertainment capabilities, Signify is pairing the release with a thematic lighting profile celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Fast and the Furious.

Flexible Rope Lights and Architectural Fixtures

The hardware update introduces several design-forward indoor and outdoor fixtures:

  • Liane 360° Rope Light: A flexible, full-circumference optical strip utilizing “OmniGlow” technology to bend around architectural features or furniture with continuous diffusion.
  • Expanded Signe Series: New minimalist pendant, pendulum, and pole fixtures intended for modern interior spaces.
  • Festavia Outdoor Lineup: Year-round outdoor extensions, including dynamic net, curtain, and icicle light formations, alongside entry-level outdoor spotlights.
