Google’s Pixel 9 Series Lands: Bigger, Brighter, and Smarter Than Ever

Pixel 9 Series (via Google)

Android phone aficionados have lots of options today. And they are all good ones, depending on individual needs for their smartphone features and functions.

That said, let’s unpack the choices and some details about several androids.

Google Pixel 9

Many believe this is the top choice because of the brightness of the OLED screen, loads of great software, an amazing camera, truly fast processor, longer battery life, and guaranteed security updates for longer than most other Androids (through 2031). Just for a test, access this awesome dating app and see how fast it loads. The Pixel 9 can be a bit pricey compared to other Androids you have owned, so wait for a sale.

Google Pixel 9 Pro

This is a Pixel 9 upgrade in a few ways – a brighter screen and more camera and AI features. It is, however, smaller. Again, it can be pricey if purchased from the eCommerce big boys, so it will be important to price shop or perhaps wait for a sale.

Google Pixel 8a

If budget is on your mind, this little number will probably fit the bill. It has a great OLED display, great performance and camera, and some pretty cool AI features. As with the two Pixel 9 models, security updates will be available through 2031. You’ll be able to get the Pixel 8a for well under $500, especially at the Google store.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

If price is not an object, you will want to consider this best phone that Samsung has to offer. Fully top-tier display, new AI features, a commanding processor, and a stunning camera. This phone comes with a high price tag – you will spend more than $1,000.

Samsung Galaxy S24

While it has a bit larger screen and battery than the 2023 model, it has the same chip as the S24 Ultra – it’s just more compact. Again, security updates until 2031. It is cheaper than the S24 Ultra, so if you are not using your phone for things that require a larger screen, this may be a good buy – probably around $800.

Best Budget Phone

For those who use their phones primarily for calls, messaging, occasional purchases and banking, an Android phone that is still full-featured and is a great little performer, the Samsung Galaxy A15 is a perfect solution. And you get all that you want or need for under $200.

Most Reviewers Like Google Pixel 9 Best

The basic features (bright screen, new processor, AI features, long battery life, and a superb camera) are all attractive, but there are other features that make this phone quite attractive. These include:

  • Sleek new hardware – rounded corners, flattened sides, matte finish, and a soft-touch matte back.
  • Great rear-camera features – 50-megapixel sensor and ultrawide lens compared to the Pixel 8.
  • New Tensor 4 chip that boosts more AI features – voice typing, magic eraser via audio, and Google’s AI chatbot Gemini.

The price over the 2023 Pixel 8 is about $100 more, making it about the same as the iPhone 15.

How Do Current Androids Compare to the iPhone 16?

The Pixel 9 and iPhone 16 are virtually similar in price but what are the differences?

  • Pixel 9’s display is .2 larger than that of the iPhone
  • Apple has 2000 units of peak brightness; Pixel has 2700 – thus Pixel is the better choice for use in direct sunlight.
  • The iPhone still has a 60Hz refresh rate, while Pixel 9 has the capability to go up to 120Hz.

While the iPhone 16 has some great new features which are being rolled out over time and which anyone is free to research, sticking with an Android lets an owner know up front everything they are getting.
