UGREEN NASync Series: Smarter, Private Cloud Storage for Home and Work

0

For most people, cloud storage started as convenience. How great is it to use someone else’s computers to house your files or back things up? Today, however, cloud storage is likely a monthly bill that never goes away.

Photos, videos, and work files live somewhere “out there,” managed by third parties and subject to storage limits or rising fees, or unexpected policy changes — similar to how businesses rely on multiple cloud phone management to control access, devices, and data across distributed team. UGREEN’s recently launched NASync series aims to end that dependency with a smarter, more secure, and subscription-free way to manage your digital life.

These next-generation NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems bring enterprise-grade performance and AI-powered organization to homes and small offices, letting you build a private cloud that’s as capable as it is easy to use.

We’ve got both of the new models here in the office, and have been kicking the proverbial tires on them over the last few weeks. Here’s what we think you should know about each.

NASync DH2300: Compact Power for Everyday Storage

The UGREEN NASync DH2300 offers an approachable entry into personal cloud storage. This compact 2-bay system supports up to 60TB of total capacity, providing plenty of room for family photos, 4K videos, and essential documents. All of this is stored locally and under your control.

Under the hood, it’s powered by a Rockchip RK3576 octa-core processor, paired with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a dedicated NPU for AI-based tasks. Despite the power, it sips just 10–12 watts, making it efficient enough for continuous use.

Running UGOS Pro, UGREEN’s clean, user-friendly operating system, the DH2300 eliminates the usual NAS complexity. Setup takes minutes, and once connected, you can access your files from Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, or any web browser.

Where this NAS truly shines is in its AI photo organization. It automatically sorts images by faces, objects, and locations, building intelligent albums you can search or browse without effort. OCR recognition even allows you to search text inside images—a lifesaver when tracking receipts or scanned documents.

Connectivity includes Gigabit Ethernet (up to 125 MB/s), multiple USB-A and USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and 4K 60 Hz HDMI output for direct media playback. With RAID 0/1, JBOD, and Basic options, plus encryption and two-factor authentication, your files stay both fast and secure.

At $188.99, the DH2300 replaces ongoing cloud fees with a one-time investment that quickly pays for itself.

NASync DH4300 Plus: A Scalable Powerhouse for Home and Business

If your needs extend beyond just personal storage, the UGREEN NASync DH4300 Plus scales the concept to professional levels. This 4-bay NAS accommodates up to 120 TB and is designed for families, creative professionals, and small teams handling large media or project files.

The DH4300 Plus steps up with a Rockchip RK3588C eight-core processor and 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, delivering smooth multitasking and rapid file transfers through a 2.5 GbE network connection, which is fast enough to move 1 GB in roughly three seconds.

Beyond raw speed, it builds on UGREEN’s intelligent ecosystem. The same AI photo tools are here, complete with duplicate removal and a “baby growth album” feature that automatically organizes milestones. Privacy is prioritized through end-to-end encryption, firewall protection, TÜV and TRUSTe certification, and two-factor authentication.

RAID options range from JBOD to RAID 10, offering flexible combinations of performance and redundancy. The UGOS Pro interface supports NFC quick connect, cross-platform file access, and private folders for each family member or team member. Sharing content is as simple as generating a QR code or secure link, without complex network setups.

Its compact design includes USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a 4K HDMI output, and whisper-quiet cooling for 24/7 operation. With no subscription fees and a $365 price tag, it provides a long-term, cost-effective solution for anyone tired of cloud dependence.

The Smarter Alternative to the Cloud

Both NASync models are built around the same idea: take back ownership of your data. Whether you’re archiving family memories or managing terabytes of creative work, UGREEN’s NASync lineup combines powerful hardware, intuitive software, and local AI processing to deliver a truly modern storage experience and without the ever-increasing or hidden costs.

The NASync DH2300 and DH4300 Plus are available now at nas.ugreen.com, each backed by a two-year warranty and free shipping.

With UGREEN’s NASync series, your cloud isn’t somewhere else. It’s right where it belongs: with you.

If You’re Concerned About a Hasselblad-less OnePlus 15, Don’t Be

0

The OnePlus 15 is just weeks away from a global launch. The new OnePlus will follow up the best phone the company has ever released, and arguably still one of the best phones from the past few years from any OEM. Now, in the same calendar year we get a refreshed model, some think maybe somewhat rushed.

One thing long-time OnePlus supporters have grown concerned about is the expiration of the Hasselblad camera technology of the OnePlus 15. For those that may not know, Hasselblad is Swedish camera maker with over 150 years of experience in photogenic results. The company partnered with OnePlus back in 2021 to launch the OnePlus 9 series and has greatly enhanced the state of photo processing on OnePlus devices in that time through last year’s OnePlus 13.

So what happened? OnePlus has decided to take this division internal with the inclusion of its new DetailMax Engine starting with the OnePlus 15. I’ll get to the point here. If you’ve hesitated on pre-ordering the new OnePlus 15 due to this, stop worrying. I’ve included some photos I’ve taken with the device over the last two weeks, and I can assure you it performs very well in the smartphone landscape.

I’ve been very impressed in the camera functions and performance so far in my testing. From the zoom to low-light situations, the OnePlus 15 holds its own in any setting. I also love the Stage auto settings for catching live performances that the software was able to detect and suggest before I ever started shooting. Check out my full gallery below and let us know in the comments what you think of this small preview of the OnePlus 15 photo prowess.

Google Map Gets New Navigation Features With Gemini Capabilities

0

The Google Maps application is undergoing a foundational transformation via the integration of Gemini artificial intelligence, paving the way for intuitive, highly efficient travel. This strategic upgrade introduces the industry’s first fully conversational, zero-touch driving interface, effectively embedding an astute copilot into your vehicle, powered by Gemini’s deep synthesis of real-world geographical data.

Easier Ways to Get Things Done While Driving

By integrating the Gemini AI assistant directly into the hands-free driving experience within the Google Maps app, efficiency reaches new heights. Drivers can now command the system to handle complex logistical operations: pinpointing necessary stops along the current route, checking nearby EV charging station availability, or, for Android users, instantly updating contacts with arrival estimates—all without requiring manual input.

This capability excels at managing chained commands, allowing users to ask multi-step questions such as: “Locate an affordable restaurant with vegan options within two miles of my path. Analyze the parking situation there,” followed immediately by route confirmation. Furthermore, with the user’s explicit authorization, the AI can seamlessly interface with other productivity applications. You can issue a cross-functional command like, “While you’re at it, please add a calendar entry for soccer practice tomorrow at 5 p.m.”

Enhanced Navigation and Real-Time Reporting

Gemini connects directly to your Calendar to schedule the event automatically. You can also dive into specific inquiries, like “Which items are most popular on the menu there?” or catch up on major news headlines, ensuring continuous focus on the road.

Maintaining system accuracy is also now a collective, effortless process. Users can instantly communicate real-time road hazards by uttering simple phrases, such as: “Collision sighted,” “Flooding observed ahead,” or “Note the impending traffic slowdown.” This Gemini-powered navigation capability is scheduled for phased deployment across Android and iOS platforms wherever the AI is available, with subsequent integration into Android Auto forthcoming.

Anticipating Congestion: Preemptive Travel Warnings

The frustration of unexpected gridlock or traffic disruptions is significantly reduced through predictive analytics. Google Maps now possesses the ability to monitor the road conditions ahead and issue immediate, proactive notifications regarding unforeseen obstacles, rapid road closures, or severe traffic backups—even when a specific navigation path has not been initiated. Proactive traffic monitoring is currently rolling out to U.S. Android users.

Gemini Helps with Identifying Real-World Landmarks

Gemini enhances navigation by integrating well-known points of interest, like eateries, fuel stations, and notable structures, into driving instructions. Rather than simply being told “in 500 feet, make a right,” drivers will receive guidance such as “make a right after you pass the Thai Siam Restaurant,” with this visual marker also appearing on their map display. This innovative approach leverages information from Google Maps and Street View to deliver precise and practical navigation. This feature, which offers landmark-assisted routing, is now available for both Android and iOS devices within the United States.

The fusion of Google Maps with Gemini provides a new standard for road travel, offering productive assistance and enjoyable discovery, allowing users to navigate every journey with enhanced assurance.

Audeze LCD-S20 Review

Audeze’s LCD-S20 arrives as an ambitious entry in the company’s storied planar magnetic lineup. They’re a closed-back, studio-focused headphone built to deliver Audeze’s signature sound with modern practicality and a sub-$500 price. Borrowing heavily from the Maxwell and MM-100 platforms, the LCD-S20 takes the same robust design language and reimagines it around a new SLAM acoustic system meant to solve the age-old challenge of closed-back bass performance.

This is not a “do-everything” type of headphone, but rather it’s more of a specialized tool designed for accuracy, isolation, and stamina in the studio.

Design and Build Quality

Chassis, Materials, and Weight

Audeze LCD-S20 closed-back studio headphones displayed in a well-lit room with various audio equipment in the background.

The LCD-S20’s frame blends magnesium, aluminum, and steel, giving it the industrial feel of pro gear. It’s built on the same chassis as Audeze’s Maxwell and MM-100, which both helps keep costs down and avoids compromising structure. Everything feels solid, from the yokes to the hinge tension, with none of the creaks or flex often found in lighter designs.

The Audeze LCD-S20 delivers studio-grade clarity and comfort with innovative SLAM technology, offering professional sound isolation and precision at an accessible price for serious creators and audio enthusiasts alike.

At 550 grams, however, the S20 is definitely not light. It weighs roughly 75 grams more than the MM-100, a difference largely due to its closed-cup construction and internal dampening materials that house the SLAM acoustic system. That added density contributes to a satisfying sense of heft, though comfort becomes a matter of individual tolerance.

Comfort and Fit

Audeze’s familiar suspension strap design returns here, with seven adjustment steps and a narrow leatherette band that rests below a rigid headband. From what I’ve gathered, opinions on comfort are split. Some users describe the fit as balanced and secure, even during long sessions, while others find the weight and narrow strap create pressure hotspots over time.

As for me, I found them to be quite comfortable in 60-90 minute sessions; however, I’ve not really gone much longer in my testing. I can surely see how it could get a bit “heavy” or noticeable after much longer.

Clamping force is light, which helps prevent a vise-like feel but can also cause the cups to shift slightly if you move around. It’s a classic Audeze trade-off: heavy, high-end construction that feels premium in hand but may require some experimentation, or an aftermarket strap, for all-day comfort.

Earpads and Connectivity

One of the LCD-S20’s standout design touches is its user-removable magnetic earpads, a first for Audeze’s LCD line. The gel-filled pads are soft and plush with a generous inner opening that helps reduce ear fatigue. Their magnetic mount makes replacement or swapping incredibly easy. This is an especially thoughtful addition for studio environments where wear is inevitable.

Each earcup features its own 3.5mm input, allowing you to connect the cable on either side. The included single-sided cable is long and flexible, and while it’s functional, some users may wish for a balanced option in the box.

Features and Technology

Planar Magnetic Core

At its heart, the LCD-S20 houses a 90-millimeter planar magnetic driver that carries forward many of Audeze’s proprietary technologies: the Fluxor magnet array, ultra-thin Uniforce diaphragm, and Fazor phase management. It’s the same driver found in the MM-100, but here it’s paired with the newly developed SLAM system to manage bass response in a sealed design.

The SLAM Acoustic System

Short for Symmetric Linear Acoustic Modulator, SLAM is Audeze’s latest acoustic innovation, first appearing in its high-end CRBN2 electrostatics and now making its debut in a sub-$500 headphone. The system employs tuned internal chambers to enhance low frequencies and improve diaphragm control without introducing the resonant “bloom” that often plagues closed-back headphones. The result is punchy, controlled bass that extends deep while maintaining clarity and separation.

Setup and Amplification

The LCD-S20’s power requirements are deceptively high. While its 18-ohm impedance might suggest it’s easy to drive, its low 93 dB/mW sensitivity tells a different story. In practical terms, the S20 needs a strong amplifier to deliver its full potential.

Run it from a smartphone, laptop jack, or low-power DAC, and the sound comes across comparatively dull and underwhelming. Pair it with a capable desktop amp or professional interface, and it transforms. Bass firms up, the midrange opens, and the overall presentation gains the dynamic authority Audeze intended. In short: the LCD-S20 rewards proper power and punishes under-driving.

I am not the sort of guy who spends time in a studio environment, nor am I the type to fully appreciate audio codecs, a DAC, or higher-end headphones. I know a great pair when I see and hear them, but I tend to use earbuds for most of my audio experience. With that said, I truly do love when I get to remind myself of how good music can be and just how different the experience is when using proper equipment. The Audeze LCD-S20’s are that proper equipment.

Audio Performance

Bass and Low-End

When properly amplified, the S20’s low-end is its defining trait. The SLAM system delivers a clean, extended bass response that feels tight rather than exaggerated. There’s weight and depth without the sluggish, resonant behavior that often accompanies closed designs. It’s articulate enough for what I imagine to be critical mixing yet lively enough for casual listening. It’s a rare and welcome balance in this category.

Close-up of Audeze LCD-S20 headphones showcasing the earcups and headband design, highlighting the materials and construction.

Midrange and Treble

The midrange sits slightly forward, bringing vocals and instruments closer to the listener. It’s an intentional tuning choice for monitoring and tracking, keeping the mix’s core elements front and center. Treble, meanwhile, leans smooth and slightly dark. There’s less sparkle in the upper registers, but this restraint helps prevent sibilance and long-term fatigue, particularly in bright or poorly recorded material.

Soundstage and Imaging

Soundstage width is the trade-off. The presentation is intimate, focused, and linear rather than expansive. It won’t fool you into thinking you’re in a large acoustic space, but that’s sort of the poin, I think. In exchange, you get exceptional isolation and precise imaging. Instruments are well separated, and spatial cues are easy to pinpoint. For tracking sessions or closed-environment mixing, the S20’s isolation is among the best I’ve experienced in its price class, effectively blocking room noise and minimizing mic bleed.

Value and Positioning

At $499, the LCD-S20 marks a significant milestone: it’s the first closed-back in Audeze’s LCD line priced (oh so barely) under $500. It delivers flagship-derived tech, robust materials, and professional-grade performance at a cost that makes it an approachable entry point into Audeze’s ecosystem.

LCD-S20 vs. MM-100

The MM-100 remains its closest sibling, sharing the same driver and general design. The MM-100’s open-back design makes it lighter and easier to drive, while the LCD-S20 trades those conveniences for superior isolation and deeper bass. The S20 demands a better amplifier but rewards the effort with a richer, more powerful presentation.

LCD-S20 vs. LCD-X

Compared to the higher-end LCD-X, the S20 is less analytical and more forgiving. The LCD-X offers a wider soundstage and airier treble, while the S20 focuses on isolation, comfort, and tonal smoothness. They’re designed for different stages of production: the S20 excels in tracking, the LCD-X in mixing and mastering.

Accessories and Warranty

The packaging is minimalist but professional. You’ll find the headphones, a single-sided 2.5-meter cable, a quarter-inch adapter, and a soft storage bag. Audeze backs the LCD-S20 with a three-year warranty on the drivers and a one-year warranty on the remaining components. The warranty is also transferable with proof of purchase, which is a meaningful gesture that reinforces confidence in build quality.

Final Verdict

The Audeze LCD-S20 is not a one-size-fits-all headphone. It’s heavy, demanding, and unapologetically specialized. But when properly paired with the right amplifier, it delivers a refined, fatigue-free sound that’s ideal for long sessions. Its bass is articulate and natural, its mids focused, and its treble smooth and non-fatiguing. The SLAM system achieves what many closed-backs fail to do, which is deliver a clean, powerful low-end without sacrificing control.

For professionals and serious enthusiasts who need isolation without giving up the planar sound Audeze is known for, the LCD-S20 stands as one of the strongest values in its class. It’s not about convenience or fashion; it’s about precision, consistency, and the kind of sonic authority that earns its place in the studio.

Rolling Square Debuts inCharge Life: A Cable Built to Outlast Everything Else

0

Rolling Square, the Swiss company known for its sleek, problem-solving tech accessories, has announced inCharge Life, a modular charging ecosystem that redefines the humble cable. The new system delivers 240W fast charging, 10Gbps data transfer, and comes with a Lifetime Right to Charging Power, a promise that if it ever fails, you’ll get a new one, no questions asked. The campaign launches on Kickstarter November 4, following a media embargo.

A Decade in the Making

What started more than ten years ago as a compact keyring cable designed to prevent “low battery panic” has evolved into a globally trusted product line. Since the first inCharge launch, Rolling Square’s Ferraris brothers have refined every version through five crowdfunding campaigns and millions of satisfied users. The result of that evolution is inCharge Life, a culmination of mechanical precision, premium materials, and circular design meant to last indefinitely.

Built for Every Scenario

The inCharge Life lineup includes models ranging from the 0.5-foot keyring cable for emergency use to an 8-foot XL long cable for extended setups. Designed for travelers, students, and creators alike, the system supports laptops, phones, tablets, cameras, and more, essentially any modern device with USB-C compatibility.

Every cable supports Power Delivery (PD 3.1) up to 240W and 10Gbps data transfer, with the exception of the dual-charging model capped at 100W. The system’s modular design allows users to connect multiple cables together without meaningful power loss, roughly 7W per 10 meters, making it practical even for longer or more complex setups.

Engineered for Durability

After more than a decade of iteration, Rolling Square has redesigned every weak point. The cables feature die-cast zinc-aluminum housings, custom strain reliefs, a graphene reinforcement layer, and oxygen-free copper wiring to maintain peak performance over time. A soft silicone jacket and braided nylon sleeve protect against cracking or fraying, while a status LED provides at-a-glance power confirmation.

The brand claims this is the most robust inCharge model ever built, tested across real-world environments, from airport gates to tangled backpacks, to ensure it holds up under daily wear.

A Lifetime Right, Not Just a Warranty

Rolling Square’s Lifetime Right to Charging Power goes beyond a traditional guarantee. If a cable ever fails, users simply cut it, send a quick video to the company, and receive a replacement. No forms, no returns, no fine print. It’s a sustainability-forward approach that reduces waste and rewards long-term ownership, turning a warranty into a permanent promise.

Smart Details and Accessories

The Cable Clip, crafted from die-cast aluminum, keeps short cables attached securely to keyrings or bags and features a QR Lost Mode sticker. Once registered, the sticker enables anyone who finds a misplaced cable to contact the owner privately. Other accessories include a USB-C extender and a travel pouch, forming a complete, modular ecosystem for home or travel.

TickTalk Adds SMS Messaging to Kids’ Smartwatch — No Contracts, No Hassle

0

TickTalk, the California-based maker of connected smartwatches for kids, has announced a new update for its TickTalk 5 smartwatch that introduces full SMS text messaging support, and it doesn’t require a contract, app install, or subscription lock-in. Parents and kids can now stay in touch with friends and family using regular text messages, voice memos, emojis, GIFs, or talk-to-text, all directly from the watch.

A Simpler Way to Stay Connected

This latest update means the TickTalk 5 can now send and receive messages to and from any cellphone, even if the recipient doesn’t use the TickTalk app. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends can join the conversation without needing to download or sign up for anything.

Ying Gong, TickTalk’s Co-Founder and CEO, said the timing was deliberate: “With the new SMS update, grandparents, trusted friends, and extended family can communicate with the TickTalk 5 user hassle-free, just in time for the holidays.” Gong emphasized that safety remains a priority, only pre-approved contacts can message or call the child’s watch.

A collection of colorful smartwatch interfaces showcasing features like voice calling, fun reminders, stop watch, group chat, secure messaging, greeting cards, timer, and adding friends.

Safety Meets Simplicity

Parents retain full control through the TickTalk app, which includes more than 50 parental controls. Only contacts added by a parent can text or call the watch, ensuring privacy and preventing unwanted messages. Families can still use TickTalk’s in-app chat or group messaging features if preferred, but now have the added flexibility of traditional texting.

The new SMS feature includes:

  • Two-way messaging between TickTalk 5 and smartphones.
  • Voice memos for quick, personal notes.
  • Emoji and GIF support to keep conversations fun.
  • Talk-to-text for kids who’d rather speak than type.

Parents can enable the feature by updating the watch through push notifications and approving new contacts in the app.

Affordable and Contract-Free

True to TickTalk’s pay-as-you-go model, this new functionality doesn’t come with strings attached. TickTalk plans start at $9.99 per month with no contracts, activation fees, or cancellation penalties. A free SIM card is included for U.S. customers, keeping setup simple for families.

The company says the update complements existing features such as T-Cloud Backup and Data Sync, which make it easy to manage and transfer settings between devices.

A Growing Ecosystem for Families

Founded in 2016 by two parents, TickTalk has built its reputation around kid-friendly wearables that balance independence and safety. The brand continues to refine its approach to family communication, combining fun, intuitive features with a framework parents can trust.
