Kanto REN Unleashes Big Sound, Simplifies Your Remote Collection

0

Kanto Audio, the Canadian brand known for its TUK and YU6 speakers, has just added a new star to its lineup: the REN 100W Active Speakers. Set to make their grand entrance at the IFA Showstoppers event in Berlin on September 5th, REN is all set to charm audio enthusiasts with its blend of modern features and solid performance.

The REN speakers come loaded with options for connectivity, which means fewer cables to trip over and more time enjoying your tunes. The headline feature here is the HDMI ARC connection. For the first time, Kanto is letting you control your speakers with your TV remote—because, let’s be honest, who needs another remote to lose in the couch cushions?

Bluetooth 5.3 is on board for those who prefer to go wireless. You’ve got USB-C and optical inputs too, which support up to 24-bit/96kHz audio. So whether you’re hooking up the latest smartphone, your trusty old laptop, or something else entirely, REN is ready to play along.

For those still holding onto their vintage gear (we see you, tape deck lovers), REN hasn’t forgotten you. With RCA Line-in and 3.5mm Mini Jack inputs, even the most old-school devices can join the party. And if you need a little more oomph, there’s a dedicated Sub-out with a selectable crossover, perfect for pairing with Kanto’s SUB8 subwoofer.

Aesthetically, REN plays well and looks good doing it. Coming in five matte finishes—Black, Grey, Orange, Blue, and White—there’s a color for every taste, whether you’re matching your décor or making a bold statement.

When it comes to sound, REN has a few tricks up its sleeve. DSP technology allows for two custom sound modes: Vocal Boost, which is perfect for those who don’t want to miss a single word during movie night, and Night Mode, which keeps the peace by taming those sudden loud noises while everyone else is asleep.

Priced at $599 USD, €579, £499, or CA$799, REN offers a lot of bang for your buck—or euro, or pound, or loonie. With all these features packed in, it’s clear that Kanto is on a mission to make high-quality sound accessible to everyone, from the casual listener to the die-hard audiophile.

Tronsmart Bang Max Wireless Speaker Review

Tronsmart’s Bang lineup has consistently punched well above its weight class for some time. The brand may not be a household name, but the quality of wireless speakers from Tronsmart is getting better and better. This is also true for the latest addition to the Bang series with the Max portable boombox.

Design

Take a traditional boombox from the 80s or 90s and run it through an AI generator for what it would look like in the future, and you get the Bang Max from Tronsmart. True to its namesake, the wireless speaker looks like what a speaker would look like on the set of Tron the movie. This includes a nice, ergonomic handle at the top.

Just below the handle is an array of buttons behind a soft-touch rubber casing. This houses the power, play/pause, volume, sync, and SoundPulse buttons. They all function as you’d expect and have good feedback when pressed.

Behind the Tronsmart logo is a 3-way speaker system for bass, mids, and tweeters to pour out rich sounds. Flanking each side of the Tronsmart Bang Max are two subwoofers surrounded by an LED light ring.

Finally, around the back is a panel for inputs and outputs hidden behind a rubber door flap. Here, you have USB out to use the Bang Max as a power bank, as well as numerous ways to input playback. Internally, there is Bluetooth, but in this array, you have MicroSD, a 3.5mm auxiliary jack, and a full guitar input. Yes, you can use this as a travel amp in a pinch.

Sound

The Tronsmart Bang Max has been fantastic for every form of media I’ve thrown at it so far. The bass is punchy and the EQ does a balanced job with the rest of the ranges. Bluetooth has been consistent as well. I’ve had no issues dropping songs while using the speaker.

I personally didn’t have a way to test the guitar input, but I can happily report that the MicroSD and aux ports work as you’d expect. Even for the larger size, the Tronsmart Bang Max outperforms my expectations for a portable speaker.

If you’d like to further tweak the tuning, you can download the Tronsmart smart app as well. Here, the EQ settings can be moved to the most pleasing options for your listening preferences. The app is intuitive and well-designed for users to get to the changes they need easily.

Lastly, if you have another capable Tronsmart speaker, or another rocking Bang Max, you can sync them together using the company’s TuneConn technology. Once the first device is connected wirelessly to your phone, you then click the TC button to start the process. Then you hit the TuneConn button on the second device to sync playback. Tronsmart says you can use this feature to daisy-chain over 100 speakers if you want.

Battery life

Of course, everyone’s results will vary by how the Tronsmart Bang Max is utilized. If you use the charging output to top off a mobile device, that’s going to bring things down a bit. Same for running the LEDs for the entirety of your playback.

When you do need to top off the internal power banks, there’s a proprietary barrel charger included in the box. This allows you to recharge in around five hours. The charging situation is my big negative about the Bang Max. Not only does it take forever to refill, the charging mechanism should be a USB-C fast charge at the $230 retail for this speaker.

The technology of USB-C should be the standard for any device in this market in 2024. It allows for universal support of the device with readily available cables you already own, and they are easily replaced when lost. Paired with that the standard can deliver up to 100W of output with appropriate cables, this is an omission I have to ding Tronsmart for outright.

Final thoughts

Tronsmart always brings the noise with its wireless speaker lineup, and the Bang Max sits at the top of this segment for the company. The robust sound, great battery life, and portable guitar amp compatibility make it the most flexible as well. At $230, this could be the party speaker of all party speakers.

The Tronsmart Bang Max speaker is available from both Tronsmart and Amazon. While $230 is the full retail value, it’s currently on sale in both locations. Hit our links below to check them out!

5 Types of Apps You Already Use on Desktop And Should Also Use on Your Phone

0

A lot of people have antivirus installed on their computers. In fact, almost everyone does. However, people are unaware that an antivirus must be installed on all of their devices. Their Android phone and their tablet need an antivirus system just as much as their desktop and laptop computers do.

So, it’s not about people not knowing that they need an antivirus; it’s about them not understanding just how much they need it on their smartphone.

Well, this is sadly not the only case where this is so. Here are five other types of apps that you’re probably already using on your desktop and now need to start using on your phone, as well.

source

VPN

Before we even start, it’s important to mention that you’re far more likely to use a phone abroad than any other device. Why? While some people bring a laptop to their vacation, no one brings their desktop, and almost no one leaves their country without a smartphone. In other words, if you could install a VPN on just one device, a smartphone would be an obvious choice.

According to tech expert Nick Saraev from Techopedia, the list of mobile VPN apps for all devices is quite impressive, and the list is expanded with each passing day. So, you’ll have a lot of decent options to pick from.

Also, keep in mind that you’re more likely to log into an unverified network via your phone. Why? Well, because you’re always on the hunt for a Wi-Fi or a hotspot, you don’t always have the privilege of choosing.

Also, more and more people watch streaming apps on mobile, which is why you can use it to bypass geo-restrictions.

Using a VPN will provide you with extra encryption for communication. Most of your IM apps and almost all of your correspondences are taking place via VPN.

All in all, not only does VPN make sense on Android, but this is where it makes the most sense.

Password Managers

If you’re logged into your Google Account on your browser, chances are that you’re already using a password manager without realizing it. Just think about when the last time you had to fill in a password manually was, even if you’re not automatically logged into a platform. This is a password manager, and it’s what the password manager does best.

Another thing you need to take into consideration is the importance of an auto-fill feature for mobile apps. Getting started with password managers is really not a difficult task and it will make your life a lot easier.

By default, password managers make it easier for you to come up with better (random) passwords and remember them all. It makes it easier to have a unique password for every platform, and they ensure that you can change them with a single click.

By installing this on your smartphone, you’ve basically ensured secure access on the go. You see, you’re probably accessing every single account that you own via your phone. You have all sorts of apps and accounts, and even if you’re using a browser on your smartphone, you’re logged into your Google Account and have your search history at the tip of your fingers.

Due to the nature of modern software, synchronization between devices will be immediate and it’s all in an encrypted vault for sensitive information.

Note-Taking Apps

With the help of a note-taking app, you’ll be able to capture ideas instantly. This is so important because ideas are fleeting, and you never know when you’ll forget something.

By having this app, you can sync notes across devices. In other words, you can start working on it via your phone (most likely scenario since the phone is always on you), and you can continue elsewhere.

This way, you also get to access important info on the go. You never know when you’ll need something, and having access to it and not having access to it can be a difference between missing out on an opportunity or using it.

The best part is that you can use voice-to-text features for quick input. Today, this is far better and more accurate than it was before. Voice recognition algorithms are more sophisticated than before, and with the help of AI technology, they are amazing at recognizing context.

Productivity Suites

With a productivity suite app, you’ll be able to edit documents on the fly much easier than you otherwise would have been able to. Keep in mind that, most of the time, you don’t really have to write or design via phone. You probably just have to log into your account, go to the document, and confirm that you accept a suggestion in a document.

It takes a few seconds if you can do it from your phone, but it could take days or weeks if you’ve just left for a vacation and they have to wait for you to get back home.

The reason why you want an app is for increased security. You’re accessing important company files, and this is something you can’t afford to fall into the wrong hands. A good app will reduce this likelihood.

This way, your collaboration with team members will be at its peak, and you’ll still pass any BYOD security policy that’s in place in your enterprise.

This will also allow you to manage tasks and deadlines on mobile without having to wait to get to a different terminal. Sometimes, these minutes and hours do make a difference.

By integrating with mobile calendars, you’ll get far more value.

Banking and Finance Apps

Speaking about the importance of integrating banking and finance apps may sound a bit disingenuous since you’re likely using them via a mobile device by default. Still, you would be shocked to learn how many people still have to start using an M-banking app.

This is just outrageous, seeing how incredible the benefits of M-banking really are. Just think about it; you can instantly transfer funds or exchange (EUR to USD, etc.) even on Sunday evening. You get to pay your bills without any contact.

Mobile deposits and transfers are quick, reliable, and contactless. During the pandemic, this was the strongest selling point of the system, but even today, there are a lot of people concerned with their health, not to mention real germaphobes.

While using M-banking, you could also download a finance app, which will help you manage your finances better and in real-time. By integrating these apps, you won’t even have to manually enter your spending.

This way, you can monitor spending and transactions, budget, and even make personal financial projections. It’s like having a personal financial advisor for which you only pay a small subscription. It’s more than worth it!

Think about how you use these platforms the most

Most of these platforms you’re probably using via your phone; you’re just taking the more difficult route. In other words, you’re either using a browser-based version instead of the app (which is a suboptimal way to do it), or you’re missing out on so many opportunities (like if you’re not using a VPN on your phone). Either way, by just rethinking your possibilities, you’re making a world of difference.

0

Realme has unveiled its two new mid-range smartphones in the market – the Realme 13 5G and Realme 13+ 5G. The two new siblings join the Relame 13 Pro and 13 Pro+ series family which was launched recently. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest Realme 13 5G and Realme 13+ 5G smartphones.

The Realme 13+ 5G is the first smartphone from the house of Realme that features MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 Energy chipset. MediaTek’s very new chipset is forged on 4nm architecture and features eight cores setup: 4x cortex A78 clocked at up to 2.5GHz and 4x Cortex A55 clocked at up to 2GHz. The chipset is paired with Mali-G615 GPU and MediaTek NPU 655 (neural processing unit), for handling gaming-sided things.

For better heat management, Realme incorporated a massive 6,050 mm2 stainless steel vapor chamber which keeps the smartphone cool during gaming and multitasking. The Realme 13+ 5G has a stunning 6.67-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2000 nits peak brightness support.

Speaking of lenses, the 13+ 5G has a dual rear camera setup at the back, consisting of a 50MP Sony LYT-600 sensor and an 8MP ultrawide lens.

Coming to the Vanilla Realme 13 variant, it is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage which is further expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. It comes with a similar display to the 13+ 5G variant. However, Realme tweaks the camera configuration here, you get a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL S5KJNS primary sensor which is complemented by a 2MP depth camera.
