T-Mobile Officially Announces the LG myTouch and myTouch Q

0

Today T-Mobile announced the LG myTouch and myTouch Q. You may remember the duo from last months T-Mobile Youtube slip, which left us wondering about the possibility of one device having a QWERTY keyboard. Well, no more guessing, it’s now official. There’s the LG myTouch, which will not have a physical keyboard and the myTouch Q, which will be equipped with a QWERTY keyboard.

Both devices will be running Android 2.3 and rocking a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 5MP camera with 720p video, and a Genius button. Besides the Q having a physical keyboard, it will also sport a smaller 3.5 inch touchscreen, while the myTouch will have a 3.8 inch touchscreen. The Q will also lack the front facing camera and T-Mobile Video Chat which comes on the myTouch version. Both devices will feature T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 4G and be available to purchase in one of two colors. The myTouch will be offered in either black or white, while the myTouch Q will come in either gray or violet. I guess they are assuming more females use physical keyboards than males? I think they’re right…

There’s no mention of price or release date but they’re definitely coming. Anyone interested in a LG myTouch series? Let us know what you think of T-Mobile’s latest offerings.

HTC has officially announced the stylish, pint-sized Explorer today, tossing it online and tapping it with a fourth quarter overseas release. As we expected this phone will be available in a variety of color options and feature some entry-level hardware under the hood. Following in the path of the HTC Rhyme, the Explorer looks to be more about function and features rather than the specs. The phone runs Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.5 custom interface.

On the subject of hardware, the Explorer offers consumers a 3.2-inch HVGA (320×480) display, a 600MHz processor, 512MB RAM, and a 3.0-megapixel camera. Certainly not the type of phone you replace your current device with but definitely appealing to new smart phone buyers.

0

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is currently on stage in New York, giving us a rundown of all things Kindle.  After looking back at the previous four year of success, he is starting to unveil new products and features.  On such feature is expected to be the hotly-anticipated Kindle Fire tablet, running Android.  We’ll be back with more information once it’s made public, but we have a pretty solid idea as to what’s in store.

According to a Bloomberg story hitting the wires within the last hour, the Amazon Kindle Fire will debut with a $199 price tag.  The arrival date is November 15th, but you may want to pre-order yours.  Sales will be ridiculous.

The Kindle Fire will have a 7-inch display and sell for $199, compared with $499 for Apple’s cheapest iPad, Amazon executives said in interviews with Bloomberg Businessweek. The device, a souped-up version of the Kindle electronic- book reader, will run on Google Inc.’s Android software, the Seattle-based company said.

UPDATE: What does the Amazon Kindle Fire have?

  • Access to Prime Instant Video – 11,000 movies and TV shows commercial-free at no extra cost.
  • Android is under the hood (multi-tasking) however it’s not very obvious… or readily accessible (yet).
  • Direct access to the MP3 store with 17 million songs, some as low as 69¢ a piece.
  • 7-inch IPS display, dual-core processor, 14.6 ounces
  • Gorilla Glass covering the LCD display

Toshiba Announces 7-inch Thrive for December

0

Toshiba has announced today that a new 7-inch variant of their Thrive tablet will be arriving in December, bringing a new level of portability to their growing Android lineup.  Available in two versions (16GB or 32GB) the tablets will run Android 3.2 Honeycomb and feature a 1280×800 HD display, a dual-core Tegra 2 chipset, and two cameras (5-megapixel rear, 2-megapixel front).

The 7-inch Thrive looks to copy its predecessor in nearly every facet, including the Micro USB, Micro HDMI and a Micro SD card slots.  Additionally, the tablet also features the same,  Easy Grip finish and relatively thicker appearance.  Even though this doesn’t have quite the same sex appeal as the AT200 Excite, we’re happy to see another hardware player expanding  their Android offerings.

Look for pricing to arrive in the coming weeks as the 4th quarter gets underway!  How much would you be willing to pay for a Toshiba Thrive 7-inch?  We’re hearing under $400 but that’s only logical if you ask us.
