Synology Debuts DS1825+ and DS725+ DiskStations for Scalable Storage

Synology has introduced two new NAS units, the DiskStation DS1825+ and DS725+, designed to meet the evolving storage needs of businesses, creative professionals, and home office users. The announcement marks a continued push by Synology to offer performance-focused hardware optimized for its DiskStation Manager (DSM) ecosystem.

Built for Heavy Lifting and Growing Workloads

The DS1825+ is the larger of the two, featuring eight drive bays, dual 2.5GbE ports, two M.2 NVMe slots for SSD caching or all-flash storage pools, and a PCIe 3.0 expansion slot for optional 10/25GbE networking. With supported SSDs, Synology claims the unit can deliver up to 2,239 MB/s read and 1,573 MB/s write speeds.

Storage is scalable, too. The DS1825+ supports up to two DX525 expansion units, bringing total raw capacity up to 360TB, which should satisfy even the most photo-obsessed creative team or SMB with an aggressive backup routine.

Compact Powerhouse for Home Offices and Edge Deployments

The DS725+ shares many of the same DNA but arrives in a smaller two-bay format. It’s targeted at remote offices, smaller teams, and personal use cases. Despite its compact size, it supports one DX525 expansion unit, offering up to 140TB of raw storage. The unit includes both 2.5GbE and 1GbE ports, along with dual M.2 NVMe slots, putting it well above average for this form factor.

Core Features with Enterprise Flavor

Both models run Synology’s DSM operating system, which brings with it a full suite of productivity and backup tools:

  • Synology Drive for private cloud access, file syncing, and sharing across platforms
  • Active Backup Suite for centralized backups of PCs, servers, VMs, and even cloud platforms
  • Surveillance Station for camera management and real-time analytics

Notably, Synology is emphasizing hard drive compatibility, requiring verified drives for system installation, part of a strategy to ensure long-term reliability and consistent performance. According to the company, each device undergoes more than 7,000 hours of testing for hardware-software synergy.

Availability

The DS1825+ and DS725+ are available globally starting July 8, 2025, through Synology’s partner and reseller network. More information, including detailed specs and purchasing options, can be found on the DS1825+ and DS725+ product pages.
