SwitchBot Lock Vision: Smart Deadbolt with 3D Facial Recognition

Smart home automation and embodied AI developer SwitchBot has officially launched its new Lock Vision Series in the North American market. The lineup, which includes the standard SwitchBot Lock Vision and the premium Lock Vision Pro, introduces the industry’s first smart deadbolt utilizing 3D structured-light facial recognition technology to streamline residential security.

The series is currently available for purchase through the official SwitchBot website and Amazon US, with an Amazon Canada release expected shortly.

Next-Generation Biometrics and Facial Mapping

The cornerstone of the Lock Vision Series is its integration of smartphone-grade 3D structured-light technology. The system projects more than 20,000 infrared points to map a user’s face with millimeter-level precision. This allows the deadbolt to unlock in less than a second while preventing unauthorized entry attempts using photographs or digital video loops.

Unlike traditional biometric scanners, the infrared mapping system functions reliably when users alter their appearance with makeup, glasses, hats, or wigs.

To address data privacy concerns, SwitchBot isolates all biometric profiles directly on the physical hardware using local AES-128 encryption. No biometric information is transmitted to or accessible by third-party smart home platforms.

Expanded Contactless Entry Framework

Beyond facial recognition, the Lock Vision Series provides a diverse ecosystem of access methods, including mobile application controls, physical keys, numerical passwords, NFC cards, smartwatches, voice commands, and proximity-based geo-fencing.

The upgraded Lock Vision Pro introduces two additional biometric layers: semiconductor fingerprint scanning and contactless palm vein recognition. The palm vein sensor utilizes near-infrared light to map the vascular patterns beneath the skin, allowing users to unlock the door without making physical contact—a feature designed to accommodate wet, soiled, or un-scannable hands.

“Our goal with the Lock Vision Series was to completely eliminate the friction points of traditional home entry without compromising on data privacy,” said Connery Lee, founder and CEO of SwitchBot.

“We are bringing true 3D facial mapping and contactless vein scanning to the front door, moving past legacy fingerprint systems into an era of effortless, secure, and truly embodied AI for the modern household.”

Power Management and Proximity Sensing

To mitigate the risk of accidental lockouts, the devices utilize a dual-layered power architecture. The primary source is a rechargeable 10,000mAh battery rated to last up to 12 months under standard operating conditions.

In the event of primary power depletion, a secondary CR123A backup battery provides up to 500 emergency cycles. Users can also provide temporary external power via an integrated USB-C port, though this interface does not recharge the internal cell.

To maximize operational efficiency, SwitchBot integrated short-range mmWave radar sensors into the chassis. The hardware remains in a low-power state until the radar detects an approaching individual, at which point it initializes the biometric scanners. Continuous battery health diagnostics are visible via the native SwitchBot application.

Native Matter Integration and Smart Ecosystem Expansion

Operating on the Matter-over-WiFi protocol, the Lock Vision Series establishes direct communication with major smart home platforms, including Apple Home, eliminating the requirement for a proprietary hardware hub.

The locks also function alongside existing SwitchBot hardware. When linked with the SwitchBot Smart Video Doorbell, users can review exterior activity feeds and trigger remote access controls. Additionally, the company’s Wallet Finder Card can double as an encrypted NFC keycard.

The hardware features an IP65 weather-resistance rating against dust and moisture infiltration. It is engineered to retrofit standard North American deadbolts, with installation requiring only a screwdriver and taking approximately 15 minutes.

Market Availability and Pricing Structures

The SwitchBot Lock Vision Series is available immediately across official retail channels. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) begins at USD 169.99 / CAD 229.99.

At launch, promotional incentives include a 17 percent discount on the official SwitchBot web store utilizing the promotional code APAP17, alongside a $40 coupon applicable to Amazon purchases.
