HTC used Facebook to announce the social networking-focused HTC Status for AT&T, which was more of a re-announcement than a true reveal since the phone had been known since it was unveiled as the HTC ChaCha at Mobile World Congress. No firm launch date or price was shared beyond a general “summer” window.
The Status featured a dedicated Facebook share button that pulsed with light when there was an opportunity to share. A single press could post a status update, upload a photo, share a web link, post a song, or check in to a location. A long press triggered a Facebook Places check-in. The button also glowed while music was playing as a prompt to share the track.
Other highlights included lock screen shortcuts for launching favorite apps, caller ID screens showing a contact’s latest Facebook status and profile photo, camera effects for photos and videos, front and back cameras (5MP main with LED flash, VGA front-facing), and a smart ringer that reduced volume when picked up and increased it when in a pocket.
Specs: Android 2.3 with HTC Sense, 2.6-inch 480×320 display, 800MHz MSM7227 processor, 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 1250mAh battery, 5MP camera with autofocus, VGA front-facing camera.
