HONOR unveils next-generation Magic V3 foldable to take on the Galaxy Z Fold 6

HONOR’s last generation Magic V2 foldable smartphone made a big splash in the foldable segment with its incredibly 9.9mm thin design. Now, HONOR has just introduced its next-generation HONOR Magic V3 foldable smartphone which brings meaningful upgrades such as a slimmer and lighter body, flagship processor, and improved battery life over the predecessor.

HONOR’s new Magic V3 foldable is now thinner and lighter than before. It measures just 9.2mm thick when folded and 4.7mm when unfolded, making it the thinnest foldable smartphone available on the market. By contrast, Samsung’s newly announced Galaxy Z Fold 6 is also slimmer than before, at 12.1mm thick which is not even close to the HONOR’s Magic V3 when it comes to thinness. The Magic V3 weighs just 226 grams, making it lighter than regular smartphones such as Galaxy S24 Ultra (232 grams). These numbers apply to the Velvet Black variant, while the other Magic V3 variant measures 9.3mm thick and 230 grams, still making it lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 (239 grams).

The Magic V3 uses an upgraded hinge mechanism which is just 2.84mm thick and is rated 500,000 folds. It is IPX8-rated for water resistance which is a new addition and first for Honor foldables.

For lenses, the Magic V3 features a triple rear camera setup: a 50MP main camera paired with a 40MP ultrawide shooter with a 112° field of view and a 50MP 3.5x periscope lens. On the front, it has a 20MP selfie shooter on each screen (main + cover screen) for capturing stunning selfies and video chats.

Powered by Qualcomm snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. Despite its thinner design, HONOR managed to fit a large vapor chamber cooling system into the Magic V3 that keeps the device cool while gaming. It houses a massive 5,150mAh silicon-based battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

You get a stunning 7.92-inch 2,344 x 2156 LTPO OLED main display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 1,800 nits of peak brightness. It features a 6.43-inch LTPO FHD+ cover screen with 120Hz refresh rate and 2,500 nits of peak brightness. There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for quickly unlocking the smartphone. The frame is made of aluminum alloy and easily withstand normal bumps and falls.

The HONOR Magic V3 starts at 8,999 yuan (~$1,240) for the base 12GB/256GB model, while the 16GB/1TB model retails at 10,999 yuan (~$1,515). It comes in red white, green, and black color options. HONOR also confirmed that the Magci V3 is also coming to the global market later this year.
