HONOR has announced a bold new direction with the HONOR ALPHA PLAN, a corporate strategy aimed at transforming the company from a smartphone manufacturer into a global AI device ecosystem leader. The initiative outlines a three-step roadmap designed to harness AI’s potential while fostering an open, value-sharing industry collaboration.
Speaking at MWC Barcelona 2025, HONOR CEO James Li underscored the impact of AI on technology, society, and culture, calling for industry-wide cooperation to unlock its possibilities.
“The AI revolution will reshape everything we know about devices and their role in our lives. HONOR is committed to leading this transformation with an open approach, working with partners to ensure AI benefits everyone,” said Li.
The ALPHA PLAN’s name is rooted in symbolism, with “Alpha” representing HONOR’s drive for technological excellence. Additionally, the lowercase Greek letter “α” visually incorporates the Chinese character for “human” (人), emphasizing HONOR’s focus on human-centric AI innovation.
The Three Phases of the ALPHA PLAN
HONOR’s roadmap is divided into three key phases:
- Step 1: The Intelligent Phone Era – HONOR aims to redefine smartphones with AI-powered experiences designed to anticipate user needs and maximize human potential.
- Step 2: The Physical AI Era – The company will work with industry leaders to expand AI capabilities beyond smartphones, integrating intelligent systems across multiple device categories.
- Step 3: The AGI Era – In its final phase, HONOR envisions a world where AI seamlessly coexists with human intelligence, enhancing daily life in unprecedented ways.
AI Innovations: Smart Assistants, Imaging, and Security
During its presentation, HONOR showcased key AI-driven advancements, developed in partnership with Google Cloud and Qualcomm Technologies.
Personal AI Assistant
HONOR introduced the world’s first GUI-based personal mobile AI assistant, demonstrating its ability to automate daily tasks, such as making reservations while factoring in schedules and traffic data. This assistant is expected to roll out in international markets soon.
AiMAGE: AI-Powered Photography
HONOR’s AiMAGE imaging technology is set to transform smartphone photography, utilizing AI to enhance clarity and detail. The system is powered by a hybrid device-cloud AI model, which:
- Uses a 1.3 billion parameter on-device AI model for real-time enhancements.
- Leverages a 12.4 billion parameter cloud-based AI model to improve telephoto imaging.
- Introduces AI-powered upscaling, allowing users to restore old portraits with high fidelity.
The AiMAGE AI Upscale feature will debut on the HONOR Magic7 series in March, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform.
AI Deepfake Detection & File Sharing
HONOR also introduced the world’s first all-ecosystem file-sharing technology, offering seamless transfers across iOS and Android devices. In addition, AI-powered deepfake detection will be integrated into HONOR’s latest smartphones and foldables.
Investing in AI’s Future
HONOR is backing its AI ambitions with a $10 billion investment over the next five years, aiming to drive innovation and foster industry-wide collaboration.
“We’re entering the Physical AI era, where collaboration is key. HONOR is calling on the industry to share AI advancements openly and work together to create a smarter, more connected future,” said Li.
To emphasize this commitment, HONOR hosted a symbolic tree-lighting ceremony with executives from Google Cloud, Qualcomm, CKH Group, Orange, Telefónica, and Vodafone, highlighting their shared vision for a globally connected AI ecosystem.
HONOR’s Long-Term Commitment to Users
HONOR reaffirmed its focus on customer experience and sustainability, announcing:
- Seven years of Android OS and security updates for the HONOR Magic series, starting with EU markets.
- A new carbon neutrality goal, pledging to reach operational carbon neutrality by 2040 and full supply chain carbon neutrality by 2050.
