Google is extending Android well beyond the phone with Googlebook, a new family of laptops built on the Android technology stack and paired with desktop foundations from ChromeOS. Pre-orders are opening with models from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, starting at $899.
The pitch is straightforward: Android phone owners should be able to move between their handset and laptop without treating the two devices as separate islands. Googlebook carries phone settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks, and messages into the setup process, then adds tools for continuing tasks and accessing phone content from the desktop.
Premium Hardware From Familiar PC Brands
Google is positioning Googlebook above entry-level Chromebook territory. The first systems use materials including aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber, with touchscreens reaching up to 2.8K OLED resolution, haptic glass trackpads, and backlit keyboards.
Intel and Qualcomm processors are part of the lineup, paired with dedicated NPUs rated above 45 TOPS. Google says the machines can reach up to 14 hours of battery life.
The Glowbar makes a return, too. Mounted on the laptop exterior, it illuminates during startup, displays battery charging progress, and reacts with animations when Gemini is in use.
Android Phone Integration Goes Much Deeper
Continue On lets users begin a task on an Android phone and resume it from the Googlebook taskbar. The Files app can browse files and photos stored on the phone, cutting out the familiar ritual of emailing something to yourself despite owning both devices.
Cast My Apps takes the connection further by streaming Android apps into desktop windows. Google specifically points to cases such as using a delivery app or grabbing a code from Messages without moving away from the laptop.
Gemini Moves Into The Desktop Workflow
Googlebook has several Gemini-powered features built around everyday desktop tasks.
Magic Pointer connects Gemini with material displayed on screen after the user wiggles the cursor. Google says it can handle jobs such as organizing calendar information or translating text, with the feature activated only when requested and capable of being switched off.
Rambler converts spoken notes into structured writing with headers, checklists, and formatted takeaways. Create My Widget lets users describe a widget in natural language and have the system generate it.
Chrome, Android Apps, And Desktop Creative Tools
Googlebook combines a desktop version of Chrome with extensions and access to Android apps through the Play Store. Google says Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and CapCut can run natively, while supported streaming services can offer offline playback.
Each purchase includes one complimentary year of GeForce NOW. Developers get a terminal environment, Antigravity tools, and an isolated Linux environment powered by a Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor. Googlebook uses ChromeOS security architecture with Google Titan hardware at its foundation.
Googlebook Pricing And Availability
Googlebook starts at $899. Each system includes 12 months of Google AI Pro with 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced tools, plus three months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, and other services. Google says Googlebook OS will receive feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.
Pre-orders are available through the Google Store, Best Buy, and select retailers. U.S. retail availability begins October 4, followed by Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia on October 5.
