Google Introduces Gemini Intelligence on Android with Multi-Step Automation

Google today announced Gemini Intelligence on Android, a new feature set bringing advanced AI automation to the company’s latest devices. The update integrates premium hardware with innovative software designed to help users complete multi-step tasks without manual intervention.

Rolling out in waves starting this summer, Gemini Intelligence will debut on the Samsung Galaxy S26 and Google Pixel 10 before expanding to watches, cars, glasses, and laptops later in 2026.

Multi-Step App Automation

At the core of Gemini Intelligence is the ability to automate tedious tasks across apps. Google spent months fine-tuning the system on popular food and rideshare apps to deliver seamless interactions. The feature can reserve a front-row bike at a spin class, locate a class syllabus in Gmail and add required books to a shopping cart, or navigate complex workflows while keeping the user in control.

App automation becomes more powerful with screen or image context. Instead of copying data between apps, Gemini can turn visual input into immediate action. A long grocery list in a notes app can become a delivery cart with a single command. Snap a photo of a travel brochure and ask Gemini to find a similar tour on Expedia for six people, and it handles the search in the background. Progress is tracked via notifications, and users retain full control over when tasks execute.

Smarter Browsing and Autofill

Starting in late June, Gemini will arrive in Chrome for Android, offering a browsing assistant capable of researching, summarizing, and comparing content across the web. Chrome’s auto-browse feature can handle mundane tasks like appointment booking or reserving a parking spot.

Autofill with Google is also evolving. By connecting to Gemini’s Personal Intelligence (opt-in only), Android can automatically populate forms using relevant information from connected apps, streamlining the process of filling out complex forms on mobile screens.

Rambler: Voice to Polished Text

Gboard already converts speech to text, but Gemini Intelligence introduces Rambler, a feature that bridges the gap between how people talk and how they want to write. Rambler filters out filler words like “ums” and “ahs,” then assembles the important parts into a concise message. The tool is designed for multilingual communication and can seamlessly switch between languages in a single message, such as English and Hindi. Audio is only used for real-time transcription and is not stored or saved.

Custom Widgets and Generative UI

Create My Widget brings generative UI to Android by allowing users to build custom widgets with natural language. Want three high-protein meal prep recipes every week? Describe the widget, and Gemini generates a custom dashboard for your home screen. Cyclists can create weather widgets that surface only wind speed and rain data. These functional tools work across Gemini Intelligence-powered Android phones and Wear OS watches.

Updated Design Language

Gemini Intelligence ships with an updated design language built on Material 3 Expressive. The visual system is functional and purposefully animated to reduce distractions and keep users focused on the task at hand.
