Earlier this year, President Obama’s historic visit to Cuba marked the beginning of an uneasy truce between the island nation and America. Now, we see the marks of capitalism showing their influence on the country. T-Mobile has just made an interconnect and roaming deal with Empresa De Telecomunicaciones De Cuba, S.A., the telecommunications company for Cuba.
Noting that “We have more customers of Cuban descent than any other wireless provider…” John Legere, T-Mobile’s CEO forged a plan that will enable T-Mobile Simple Choice customers to:
- Call landlines and wireless phones in Cuba from the U.S. for just $0.60 per minute – 65 percent less than today – with the popular monthly “Stateside International Talk” feature ($15 per month) and
- Use voice, text, and data while traveling in Cuba, starting this summer.
Customers in places like Miami, a center of Cuban-American descent, are routinely choosing T-Mobile and MetroPCS almost twice as much as AT&T and Verizon. In addition, Cuba is usually the #1 most requested addition to T-Mobile international roaming on social media.

Do you know if this will work for Tmobile MVNOs also?
