For Your Consideration: Three Segway Accessories That Make the F3 Even Better

Segway F3 Review

When we reviewed the Segway F3 a few months ago, one thing stood out beyond the ride quality, comfort, and smart features: it felt like a scooter built for people who planned to ride often.

Not just weekend rides around the neighborhood. Not just the occasional trip to the coffee shop. The F3 felt designed for commuters and daily riders. In fact, it became my favorite thing to do as summer gave way to fall in Ohio. You’d find me on the scooter at least three to four times per week, often after dinner and taking in sunsets.

After spending additional time with Segway’s growing ecosystem of accessories, three products in particular have stood out as worthwhile additions depending on how and where the scooter fits into daily life. None of them fundamentally change the F3 experience. Instead, they address three common realities of ownership: range, charging time, and situational awareness.

If the F3 is the foundation, these are the accessories that help tailor it to the rider.

The External Battery: Turning “Can I?” Into “Why Not?”

A black and gray Segway lithium-ion battery pack, designed for electric vehicles, featuring a sleek design with hexagonal patterns and a charging indicator.

The Segway External Battery 48V is easily the most transformative accessory of the group.

Adding 468Wh of additional capacity, the battery effectively changes the way riders think about range. Before installing it, longer rides often involved a bit of mental arithmetic. How far is the destination? Will there be enough battery left for the return trip? Should Sport mode be avoided to conserve power?

Those questions largely disappear once the external battery enters the equation.

Mounted externally using included hardware, the battery integrates cleanly with compatible models including the F3, F3 Pro, MAX G3, and GT3. Installation took less than twenty minutes, and the Segway app intelligently tracks both batteries independently.

What impressed us most wasn’t necessarily the extra mileage. It was the freedom. Multiple days of commuting, errands, and recreational riding became possible without constantly checking battery percentages.

The battery adds roughly eight pounds to the scooter, but the tradeoff feels reasonable considering the additional capacity. Better yet, it doesn’t interfere with the folding mechanism, which means the F3 remains just as practical for apartment dwellers, train commuters, and anyone regularly carrying their scooter indoors.

For riders who frequently push the limits of their battery, this accessory makes the strongest case for itself.

The Flash Charger: Less Waiting, More Riding

The Segway eKickScooter Flash Charger tackles a different problem.

Sometimes the issue isn’t how much battery capacity a scooter has. It’s how quickly that battery can be replenished.

At first glance, the Flash Charger looks like little more than a compact black power brick. In practice, it became one of those accessories we appreciated more the longer we used it.

Compatible with the F3, F3 Pro, MAX G3, ZT3 Pro, and GT3, the charger delivers substantially faster charging than the standard setup. The difference becomes most noticeable during the middle of the day.

Instead of plugging in after a morning commute and waiting until the next morning, riders can recover meaningful charge during lunch, while working, or between errands.

That flexibility matters.

The charger includes multiple layers of safety protection and automatically manages thermal conditions when temperatures rise. We noticed charge speeds occasionally taper after particularly warm rides, but that’s protective behavior rather than a flaw.

One particularly useful trick for compatible models: the Flash Charger can operate alongside the standard charger simultaneously, reducing charging times even further.

For riders using the F3 as transportation rather than recreation, the Flash Charger often feels less like an accessory and more like a convenience upgrade.

The Rear-View Mirror: The Simplest Upgrade Might Be the Smartest

A pair of bicycle mirrors mounted on adjustable brackets, featuring one round reflective surface and a sleek black design.

Of the three accessories, the rear-view mirror may be the least exciting.

It’s also the one we found ourselves thinking about most often after installing it.

Scooter riders spend a surprising amount of time looking over their shoulders. Whether checking bike lane traffic, approaching cyclists, or vehicles preparing to pass, situational awareness is a constant part of riding.

The Segway eKickScooter Rear-View Mirror addresses that with a straightforward design that takes only minutes to install.

The convex tempered-glass mirror provides a wide field of view, while the silicone mounting system keeps vibrations reasonably controlled even on rough pavement. A fully adjustable arm allows riders to dial in positioning based on their height and riding posture.

What stood out most was how quickly it became second nature. Within a few rides, quick glances into the mirror replaced many of the shoulder checks we’d normally make.

It’s not a replacement for paying attention or checking blind spots, of course. But it does add another layer of awareness that feels particularly valuable for commuters navigating busier streets.

Final Thoughts

The Segway F3 works perfectly well without any accessories. That’s part of what made it easy to recommend in the first place. These add-ons simply allow owners to lean further into whatever aspect of riding matters most to them.

The External Battery is for riders who want to travel farther and think less about charging. The Flash Charger is for riders who need quicker turnaround between trips. The Rear-View Mirror is for riders who value greater visibility and awareness on every ride.

None are necessities.

All three, however, feel like accessories designed by people who actually spend time on scooters.

And that’s often the difference between a gadget that ends up in a drawer and one that becomes part of the daily routine.
