ADT Enters DIY Security Market with ADT Blu System

ADT Enters DIY Security Market with ADT Blu System

Residential security veteran, ADT Inc. has officially broken into the self-installation market with the debut of ADT Blu. The new product line marks a strategic shift for the century-old security giant, offering consumer-installed hardware that can be configured, managed, and progressively expanded entirely through the proprietary ADT+ mobile application.

The launch aims squarely at modern households prioritizing smart home integration and plug-and-play setups. By introducing a modular approach, ADT intends to redefine the standard “Do-It-Yourself” (DIY) segment, which has historically relied on detached, unintegrated camera feeds rather than cohesive home defense networks.

Executive Vision: Balancing Autonomy and Professional Protection

Leadership notes that the system is designed to remove the traditional compromises homeowners face when choosing between simple DIY setups and enterprise-grade reliability.

“For over 150 years, ADT has anchored North American home protection,” said Jim DeVries, Chairman, President, and CEO of ADT.

“With ADT Blu, we are merging that historical legacy of trusted, professional-grade security with the absolute autonomy today’s smart households demand. This isn’t just a collection of standalone cameras—it is an adaptable ecosystem that grows alongside our customers’ lives, giving them premium defense entirely on their own terms.”

Todd Dernberger, Chief Growth Officer at ADT, reinforced this direction, stating that the platform addresses a long-standing gap in the market by pairing self-setup convenience with the fallback insurance of ADT’s legacy monitoring network.

App-Driven Customization and Technical Features

Central to the ADT Blu ecosystem is the ADT+ application, which acts as the digital control hub for the hardware. Through this unified interface, users can self-manage their properties without being tied down by standard technician visits or rigid, long-term service agreements.

Key technical and operational features of the ecosystem include:

  • Comprehensive Remote Management: Users can arm or disarm system zones, view encrypted live video feeds, utilize two-way audio communication, and receive instant localized alerts.
  • Artificial Intelligence Integration: Connected cameras employ AI video features to filter alerts and differentiate between routine motion and genuine security incidents.
  • Flexible Monitoring Paths: Homeowners can choose to self-monitor their property at zero monthly cost or seamlessly activate ADT’s 24/7 professional dispatch network whenever they require an extra layer of defense.
  • Hardware Scalability: The framework allows users to gradually incorporate peripheral safety devices, including entry sensors, environmental detectors, and smart locks.

Tiered Pricing Structures

The ecosystem rolls out with individual components alongside pre-packaged equipment kits engineered to fit different property sizes:

Equipment TierPrice RangeCore InclusionsTarget Audience
Standalone HardwareStarting at $69Individual high-definition camerasAdaptive monitoring / localized expansion
Base Package Kits$249 – $389Central hubs, motion detectors, and entry sensorsApartments and mid-sized residential spaces

Retail Distribution and Availability

In an effort to lower the friction of buying security hardware, ADT is moving away from traditional sales funnels by making the entire product suite available on mass-market e-commerce spaces.

ADT Blu equipment packages and standalone devices are immediately available for purchase through Amazon, ADT official online store, and via direct phone order lines.
