Interview with Bart Crebolder on Why Browser Casinos Still Compete With Android Casino Apps

Mobile casino players are simple in one way.

They want the site to load fast, the games to open cleanly, and the cashier to work without a fight. Most do not care if the icon came from Google Play, a browser shortcut, a PWA, or an APK.

Today, we’re speaking with Bart Crebolder from OnlineCasinoGroups, a casino expert who tests operators, mobile lobbies, payment rules, bonus terms, and the small details players usually notice too late.

Why do browser casinos still compete with Android casino apps?

I think browser casinos survive because they remove one big step.

A player does not always want to install something just to check a casino. They want to open Chrome, see the lobby, test the menus, check the cashier, and decide if the site feels safe enough.

Bart Crebolder of OnlineCasinoGroups

For me, that first five minutes matters more than the app badge. If the browser casino loads quickly, keeps the menu simple, remembers the login, and opens games properly, most players will not complain.

Apps can be great, but they create extra questions. Is it available in my region? Is it official? Does it need strange permissions? Will updates arrive on time?

A good browser casino avoids most of that friction.

Are Android casino apps better when they are available?

Sometimes, yes. But I would not say “app” automatically means better.

A proper Android app can feel smoother. It can send cleaner notifications, stay on the home screen, handle sessions nicely, and feel more like a normal mobile product. That works well when the operator is licensed, the app is official, and the download comes from a trusted store.

The problem is that casino apps are not available everywhere. Google Play allows real-money gambling apps only under specific rules, licences, countries, and product limits. So players often end up with browser sites or APK downloads instead.

That is where I get cautious.

If the app is official and easy to verify, fine. If the player has to hunt for a random APK link, I prefer the browser version almost every time.

What is your view on casino PWAs?

I actually like PWAs when they are done properly.

A PWA gives the player some of the app feeling without forcing a full app-store download. On Android, players can add a web app to the home screen through Chrome, and it can open more like a standalone app.

For casinos, that is useful. The operator can update the site quickly, fix cashier problems, adjust the lobby, and keep everything tied to the web version. Players also avoid installing a random file from the internet.

But a PWA still has to be good. Some casinos just put lipstick on a mobile website and call it an app-like experience.

For me, the test is simple… Does it load fast? Does it remember where I was? Does the cashier work cleanly? If not, the PWA label means nothing.

Why do some casinos still push APK downloads?

Usually because they want an app experience without going through the normal store route.

That can happen for legal, market, or product reasons. Some operators cannot list a full casino app in certain regions. Others want more control over updates, payments, or promotions.

I understand why casinos do it. I just do not love it from the player side.

An APK asks for more trust. You are installing a file directly on your phone. If the source is not clear, that is a problem. If the casino asks players to disable normal safety habits, that is an even bigger problem.

Where do browser casinos beat Android apps?

Browser casinos win on speed, access, and cleanup.

You can open the site, check it, play if you choose, and leave without installing anything. That is underrated. Players test more casinos now, and they do not want seven gambling apps sitting on their phone.

Browser casinos are also easier when switching devices. You can move from Android phone to tablet or laptop without caring about app versions.

I also like the privacy angle. Some players do not want a casino app icon on their home screen. A browser tab feels less permanent.

The weak point is performance. Bad browser casinos feel awful on mobile. Tiny buttons, slow game loading, broken filters, and sticky bonus popups can kill the whole thing.

So browser wins only when the mobile build is properly tested.

Where do native Android apps still have the edge?

Apps still win when the operator takes mobile seriously.

A strong Android app can feel cleaner than a browser casino. Login can be quicker. Push alerts can be useful when they are not spammy. The home screen icon is handy. Some apps also handle game loading and navigation better.

But I judge the operator, not the format.

A lazy app is worse than a good browser site. I have seen casino apps that are basically wrapped websites with more bugs. That does not impress me.

For me, a good app should earn its place on the phone. It should be faster, safer, cleaner, and easier than Chrome. If it is not doing that, players are just giving up storage space for no reason.

What mobile mistakes do you see casinos making most often?

The biggest mistake is building for desktop, then squeezing it onto mobile.

You see it right away. Game tiles are too small. Filters are hidden. Search is weak. The cashier has too many steps. Bonus terms open in tiny text. Live chat covers the deposit button. It feels like nobody tested it with one thumb on a real Android phone.

Another mistake is making withdrawals harder than deposits. On mobile, players notice that fast. If deposit takes ten seconds and withdrawal takes a maze of menus, trust drops.

I also hate fake app pressure. Some casinos keep pushing “download our app” before the player even knows if the site is good.

Let the mobile site prove itself first. Then ask for the install.

Final Thoughts from Bart

I do not think browser casinos are going away on Android.

Apps matter, and good ones can be excellent. But browser casinos still fit how many players actually behave. They want quick access, fewer installs, easy testing, and less risk from unknown APK files.

For me, the best mobile casino is not the one shouting “app” the loudest. It is the one that works cleanly on the phone in your hand.

That means fast loading, clear menus, safe login, simple cashier steps, readable terms, fair permissions, and no pressure to install something you do not need.
