Samsung on Thursday announced that its Galaxy S10 Lite smartphone is available to purchase in the US. First announced at CES in January, it is being offered in limited channels.
Customers can purchase the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite unlocked for $650 at Samsung’s website, Best Buy, and Amazon. It will be sold in Prism Black.
For a limited time, consumers can save money on the S10 Lite or pick up some freebies with purchase.
Amazon.com: Free Galaxy Buds with purchase of Galaxy S10 Lite
BestBuy.com: Save up to $200 with qualified activation
The Galaxy S10 Lite is a lower priced alternative to the 2020 flagship model that is the Galaxy S20. Nevertheless, it’s still an incredible device that’s surely powerful enough to handle the day-to-day needs of typical consumers.
Key specifications include a 6.7-inch display, three rear cameras, and a 4,500mAh battery. With at least 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, there’s plenty of performance to go around.
Samsung has expanded its tablet lineup with the introduction of a Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. although it’s pretty similar to the Galaxy Tab S6 of 2019 in way of design, it features more modest hardware and what Samsung terms “accessible” price.
Specifications include a 10.4-inch screen at 2,000 x 1,200 pixel resolution, an octa-core processor, and 4GB RAM. Internal storage is shown to be 64GB and 128GB with a microSD expansion card for up to 1TB of external media.
Other noteworthy details include an 8-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, dual speakers with Dolby Atmos, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 7,040mAh battery. According to Samsung, users should look for up to 13 hours of video playback per charge.
As for software, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite runs Android 10 with Samsung’s custom UI 2.0.
A key component in the experience, of course, comes in the way of support for Samsung’s S Pen. Users can mark up images, highlight text, search tags, take notes, edit photos, and more. The tablet comes with the stylus and an optional Book Cover accessory includes a magnetic holder to ensure it’s not lost.
The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite comes in both Wi-Fi and LTE versions and will be available in Oxford Gray, Angora Blue, and Chiffon Pink. There’s no hard date for availability, but Samsung says it will be here later this quarter with a $350 price tag.
Google has officially confirmed that the Coronavirus tracking updates will be sent to all Android phones running Android version 6 or above through the Google Play Store. This way of sending the updates would be more stable and quicker compared to system-level updates to Android phones as it might be delayed due to the carrier and manufacture restrictions. Google is building this COVID-19 contact tracing system for smartphones in collaboration with Apple.
However, this update could not be made available to Android phones in China or Huawei devices due to certain pre-existing restrictions. Google is planning to publish a separate, secure framework of this anonymous tracking system that could be used by these companies to implement the coronavirus tracking system to their devices if they ever intend to. This method is advantageous because it ensures that even older Android phones that have stopped receiving system or security updates will still be able to receive this update through the Google Play Services in their device.
The first phase of this update will involve pushing the relevant APIs via the Google Play Services to enable interoperability between the Android and iOS smartphones using the official apps on both these platforms from public health authorities across the world. Following this, the second phase will include the APIs being built into the Android and iOS operating systems allowing a lot of users to take part in the Bluetooth enabled contact tracing system for tracking COVID-19.
While the first phase is expected to begin in May, there is no definitive time frame announced for the second phase, however, it is expected to be due in the coming months. This entire process has privacy as the main focus and neither the identity of the users involved or their location data would be revealed in this process. The device of the person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 will be able to transmit a list of everybody they have come in close contact with to the cloud and these people will be notified and be prompted to contact the local health authorities.

Niantic on Wednesday announced a whole host of new changes coming to Pokemon Go which look to keep the game fun and involved in these pandemic times.
Set to go live in the near future are features such as the ability to remotely access raids, automatically receive daily tasks, and help with collecting gifts.
One of the biggest problems facing Pokemon Go players is that they’re not really supposed to be out playing. They’re especially not allowed to be gathering in large groups. Beating a raid boss is pretty hard when you’re going it alone or can’t team up.
As such, remote raiding is coming to Pokemon Go and it will let players access battles for raid that can be seen on the nearby screen. And while they’ll give players the same benefits as showing up in person at launch, things will change with time.
At midnight every day, you’ll receive a bonus task without having to spin a PokéStop! These tasks will be different from Field Research tasks you receive from PokéStops and will focus on activities that you can complete from home.
Another problem with being confined to the home is that you can’t pick up field research from spinning Pokestops. Moreover, you can’t get gifts to send to other players, either. To combat this, Pokemon Go will automatically add a Bonus Field Research task for players. Buddy Pokemon will also gain the ability to visit nearby Pokestops on your behalf to bring back gifts.
With a Remote Raid Pass, you can access Raid Battles you can see on the Nearby screen from wherever you are.
You’ll receive a bonus Field Research task daily without having to spin a PokéStop.
As you run low on Gifts, your Buddy Pokémon will venture to nearby PokéStops and bring some Gifts back for you to send out to your friends.
You’ll be able to power up your Pokémon to the desired CP by using all the required Candies and Stardust at once.
After using a Star Piece, Lucky Egg, or Incense, you’ll be able to use more of the same item to extend the item’s effect beyond the usual 30-minute limit. No more waiting for an item effect to expire before you can use another one!
Look out for other updates, including improved battle-screen design.
Other cool changes coming to the game are more in line with quality of life (QoL) updates to improve the experience. Look for the ability to activate multiple Lucky Eggs, Incense, and Star Pieces as well as being able to power up a Pokemon to a desired level in one move.
There’s quite a lot to unpack in the new changes and it’s an exciting time to be a Pokemon Go player. To learn more about the forthcoming features, head to pokemongolive.com.
Look, we get it, things are pretty hectic right now and there’s plenty of uncertainty to go around. And whether you’re working from home, laid off, or just worried about the future, money is likely a major concern in your household.
As we start to dial down spending and cut out things we don’t need, cell phones and rate plans could be part of the conversation.
We’ve already seen that many people don’t care to spend upwards of $1,000 or more for a phone. What about ongoing monthly bills? Are there better options? Can you save money and still get everything you need? Yes, you most certainly can.
The following are rate plans which cost just $15 per month — or less. While they might not be the right option for your needs, one of them could be what helps keep a loved one connected.
If you have an existing phone that you’ve got lying around, you can pair it with one of these carriers. You can also buy a phone from them, too. Then again, if you’re really trying to save money, perhaps buy a used phone from a place such as Swappa.
AT&T Network
AT&T Prepaid ($15) – Unlimited talk, text, and 2GB high-speed data (Limited Time)
Ting ($15) – Unlimited talk and text (Limited Time)
Twigby ($15) – Unlimited talk, text, and 3GB high-speed data (Promotional offer for six months)
Keep in mind that things can change any time. Some of the aforementioned options have predetermined expiration dates; other plans may show up along the way.
Even with phone batteries creeping above 4,000mAh on a regular basis, handsets will eventually run out of power. And even though you’re likely stuck on the couch for now, you can’t play games forever. You’ll need to charge up.
When you have a house full of phones and electronics, you understand how precious a wall outlet can be. Why bother fighting with someone else over the charging cable when you can all use it at the same time?

The fight for “phone of the year” gets more interesting today as the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro formally make their debut. Indeed, they bring to the table a whole array of top-notch hardware but balanced with somewhat wallet-friendly price tags.
In an online press event on Tuesday, Chinese phone maker OnePlus shared the key features for its flagship experience for 2020. Here’s what you need to know about the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.
OnePlus 8 Pro
As a follow-up to the OnePlus 7, the OnePlus 8 Pro is available in Ultramarine Blue, Onyx Black, and Glacial Green, and comes with an IP68 rating for water resistance. Moreover, it offers up fast (30W) wireless charging. If you haven’t paid close attention to previous OnePlus phones, you’d likely not know that these two features are new for 2020.
The OnePlus 8 Pro has a 6.78-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate that can show more than 1 billion colors. There is a small punch-hole for the front-facing camera.
Around back are four cameras, led by a 48-megapixel main sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens, 3x telephoto, and a color filter sensor for effects and filters.
OnePlus 8
Similar in design, it’s a slightly more compact experience with a 6.55-inch display. It also has a 90Hz refresh rate which should make for a silky smooth scrolling and gaming.
As for cameras, there are three on the back: a 48-megapixel main lens, 16-megapixel ultra-wide, and a macro camera.
Although it does boast 30W fast charging, the OnePlus 8 does not have wireless charging capabilities. Additionally, it doesn’t have the water resistance present in the Pro model.
In the area of performance, the OnePlus 8 series will be no slouch. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor powers the devices. Further, they’re both equipped with 5G connectivity.
Availability
Sales for the OnePlus 8 line get started later this month (April 29) for both the US and Canada. Pre-orders are available now for Europe with the on-sale date of April 21.
OnePlus 8 w/8GB RAM/128GB storage – $699
OnePlus 8 w/ 12GB RAM/256GB storage – $799
OnePlus 8 Pro w/ 8GB RAM/128GB storage – $899
OnePlus 8 Pro w/ 12GB RAM/256GB storage – $999
The OnePlus 8 Pro will be sold through OnePlus website and via Amazon; the OnePlus 8 will also be offered through T-Mobile and Verizon.
The OnePlus 8 5G smartphone is coming to T-Mobile on April 29 with an exclusive Interstellar Glow color. Verizon will sell the new OnePlus 8 5G UW for $33.33 a month for 24 months on Verizon Device Payment ($799.99 retail).
