0

CRKD, the premium collectible gaming brand, has announced the worldwide shipping of the highly anticipated NITRO DECK+. Following the success of the award-winning Nitro Deck, this new iteration promises to elevate the gaming experience for Nintendo Switch users with improved ergonomics, innovative features, and enhanced control options.

Enhanced Features and Design

The NITRO DECK+ retains the comfortable footprint of the original Nitro Deck while introducing several key innovations. The NITRO DECK+ introduces new ‘Sidekick’ buttons located beside each thumbstick. These buttons replicate the B and A action commands, providing super-fast feedback during gameplay. Combined with re-mappable back buttons pre-programmed to the X, Y, A, B action buttons, users can interact with their games more efficiently, keeping both thumbs comfortably on the sticks.

Light Shines Again: The Light Phone III Brings Minimalism to Modern Tech

0

In a world where smartphones are getting smarter and more complex, Light is taking a refreshing turn with its latest release, the Light Phone III. Known for their minimalist approach, Light has once again embraced simplicity, offering a device that focuses on essential functions while stripping away the distractions of the digital age.

The Light Phone III carries forward the brand’s ethos with a black-and-white display that forgoes social media, the internet, and email. However, this model introduces a larger OLED display and an NFC chip, paving the way for future payment tools. It also includes a camera, allowing users to capture moments without the frills of a typical smartphone.

Bigger and Better Design

Co-founder Joe Hollier shares that the goal was to enhance usability and performance. The Light Phone III is about as wide as most iPhones but shorter, resembling the form factor of a BlackBerry. This size tweak makes vertical texting a breeze. The AMOLED screen, lighting only the white pixels, paired with matte glass, maintains the e-ink aesthetic many users love.

Origins and Evolution

Light started in 2014 as a Kickstarter project aimed at those wanting to break free from smartphone addiction. The first two models, the Light Phone I and II, sold over 100,000 units combined, with the Light Phone II making up most of the sales.

Essential Features, Minimal Distractions

The Light Phone III keeps necessary features like maps, navigation, calls, texting, notes, voice notes, a calendar, timer, alarm, calculator, hotspot, and a simple music player and podcasts tool. It deliberately leaves out social media apps, clickbait news, and web browsers, offering a focused user experience.

Users can choose their own carrier or opt for Light’s $30 per month phone plan with 1GB of data. There are also plans at $45/month for 5GB or $70/month for unlimited data. This phone is perfect for those who want a break from their primary device but still need to stay connected.

Privacy First

Privacy is a big deal for Light. When using features like navigation, Light ensures that user data isn’t tracked or shared with tech giants like Google.

New Additions and Upgrades

This model introduces a 50-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. It’s designed for simple, point-and-shoot use. Another new feature is the light wheel, which lets users easily adjust screen brightness.

The Light Phone III also supports more antenna bands, making it a global device. It features aluminum casing, recycled plastic speaker grilles, larger speakers, a fingerprint ID power button, and 5G capability. With 6GB of RAM, 128GB of memory, and modern Qualcomm chips, it’s a significant upgrade. The battery is user-replaceable, or Light can replace it for under $50.

Pricing and Availability

The Light Phone III is priced at $799, a significant jump from the $299 Light Phone II, which will still be available. Early adopters can preorder the new model for $399, supporting the first production run with Foxconn. Orders are expected to ship in January 2025.

Full Specs of the Light Phone III:

  • Dimensions: 106mm x 71.5mm x 12mm
  • Weight: 124g
  • Network: 5G + 4GLTE
  • Display: 3.92” AMOLED (1080×1240)
  • Screen: Matte Glass
  • Port: USB-C 2.0
  • Camera: 50m rear / 8m front
  • SIM: Nano SIM + E-SIM
  • Memory: 128GB / 6GB RAM
  • Battery: 1800 mAH
  • Sound: 2 mics (noise cancellation), 2 stereo speakers
  • Features: GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, Fingerprint ID
  • Materials: Aluminum, Glass, SORPLAS Recycled Plastic
  • Chipset: Qualcomm SM 4450
  • IP Rating: IP 54

Light is pushing the boundaries of what a phone should be, focusing on what matters most and letting go of the rest. The Light Phone III is not just a device; it’s a statement against the constant digital noise of today’s world. Is it a statement that resonates with you, though? And are you willing to drop premium-tier money for the experience?

This new flagship smartphone has Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor inside

0

Xiaomi has introduced its latest camera-centric affordable flagship smartphone – the new Xiaomi 14 Civi. Xiaomi’s 14 Civi is a rebranded version of the Civi 4 Pro, which was recently launched in China. Xiaomi’s latest phone comes with an interesting set of features, making it the best option available at this price point.

Like other Civi models, Xiaomi’s 14 Civi also comes with a 32MP dual selfie camera setup with 4K 30fps video recording capabilities. Xiaomi has collaborated with a professional camera maker brand Leica to achieve exceptional camera performance. The 50MP Light Hunter 800 main camera with OIS paired with a 12MP ultrawide shooter with a 120° FoV and a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x telephoto zoom support.

The Xiaomi 14 Civi is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. It boasts a 4,700mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. Unfortunately, the device doesn’t support wireless charging.  The device runs on Xiaomi’s Hyper OS based on Android 14 out of the box. Xiaomi also promises three major Android updates (up to Android 17) and four years of security patches.

The flagship smartphone has a stunning 6.55-inch 1.5K (2,750 x 1,236px) quad-curved AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision support. There’s a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on top, protecting it from accidental falls and scratches. As for dimensions, the smartphone measures just 7.45mm thick.

HTC U24 Pro: New Specs, Familiar Design – and We’re Here for It

0

HTC has released its latest mid-range Android phone, the U24 Pro, reminding the tech world that the company is still very much in the game. Known for its occasional surprises, HTC continues to show its dedication to the smartphone market.

The U24 Pro is now available for pre-order in Taiwan, boasting Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor. It runs Android 14 smoothly with 12GB of RAM and offers storage options of either 256GB or 512GB. For those who need more space, there’s a microSD card slot included.

The phone features a 6.8-inch FHD+ OLED display, delivering vibrant colors and crisp details. Up front, there’s a notification LED, a small but handy feature that’s becoming rare. Powering the device is a 4,600mAh battery, supporting wired charging up to 60W and wireless charging up to 15W. Other essentials include NFC, Bluetooth, IP67 water resistance, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, catering to users who appreciate traditional audio connections.

The camera setup on the U24 Pro is robust, with three rear cameras: a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 50MP telephoto lens. The front-facing camera also impresses with a 50MP sensor, cleverly integrated into the display, leaving the top bezel to house the notification LED, earpiece, and other sensors.

One aspect to keep in mind is that software updates aren’t necessarily guaranteed with HTC devices. This might concern users who prioritize having the latest software features and security updates. However, for many, the solid hardware and overall performance might be the primary focus, making this a minor drawback.

In Taiwan, the U24 Pro is priced at $18,990 TWD, roughly $585 USD. It will be available in “Twilight White” and “Space Blue” starting June 30. Global availability details are yet to be announced, but this release signals HTC’s ongoing, albeit minor, commitment to delivering quality smartphones.

ESR Gear 3-in-1 Qi2 Portable Charger Review

Up until a few years ago, I had never heard of ESR Gear. But since I first learned of them, I’ve been opened up to just how many great accessories come out of their camp. We’ve covered several of those recently surrounding the emergence of Qi2 charging devices, and we are back again with the ESR 3-in-1 Portable Charger.

Design

This small, collapsible charger doesn’t look unfamiliar to other MagSafe style charging stands. The main portion of the ESR is flanked with the pretty iconic ring and small line of magnets we are now familiar with MagSafe. The main difference here is that it’s also Qi2 compatible. This brings full 15Watt outputs via the system to match the official Apple standard for any phone that supports it.

The “base” of the stand while open holds two other charging mechanisms. In the very front of this portion, is a small Qi charging pad for earbuds. Towards the rear, is a USB-C output that technically can handle any USB-C output, but the unique thing here is ESR includes its fantastic modular Apple Watch charger we saw in the 3-in-1 desktop chargers.

The sample we received is a nice, slightly glossy black color. There also seems to be almost a faux leather coating or cover around the entire device. It’s a great touch of premium that makes the ESR 3-in-1 Portable to really stand out when taking it out of your bag.

Zero complaints in this department. The slim footprint and modular Apple Watch dongle makes this a breeze to set up and break down in seconds while traveling. Oh, and the box includes a compartmentalized hard case to store the charger, cable, and dongle while on the go.

Performance

General charging has been great as well. I used this on a recent trip to FL and all three charging options worked as expected. The earbuds pad is slightly cramped by the angle of the folding hinge, but otherwise, I was able to charge all three of my accessories with the full 15W of the MagSafe and 5W on my Apple Watch and Soundcore earbuds.

I also like that the USB-C port for the Apple Watch charger is modular and not exclusive for the dongle. I had no issues using this to recharge my ESR MagSafe power bank as well while preparing for my return flight in my hotel room the night before. It is full functional with any USB-C standard cable output.

Lastly, ESR has a balance of making the MagSafe mount secure enough that you won’t accidentally knock it off, but isn’t too strong to make it difficult to remove when needed. This is a real issue with cheaper Amazon alternatives. Either they are crazy strong magnets that force you to fight the charger to get your phone back, or the magnets are so weak you are constantly knocking your phone onto the floor.

Pricing and availability

Currently, the ESR 3-in-1 Qi2 Portable looks to only be for sale on Amazon. The charger still shows as coming soon on ESR’s direct website. The full retail price on Amazon is $70, but looks to be discounted as a launch special for only $55. You can snag the ESR 3-in-1 Qi2 Portable in two colors: black and white.

Conclusion

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the quality of ESR Gear devices, and the new Qi2 3-in-1 portable charger is no exception. The slim footprint with updated 15W outputs for MagSafe make it a great addition to anyone’s luggage for their next trip. Add in the fantastic modular Apple Watch charger and the earbuds station, and this should just be something you own regardless.

Jabra Upgrades Elite 10 and Elite 8 Active Earbuds

0

Jabra has introduced second-generation models of its Elite 10 and Elite 8 Active earbuds, just months after their initial debut in August. While the appearance remains largely unchanged, except for new color options, these updated models bring significant enhancements in noise cancellation, audio features, spatial sound, and more.

LE Audio Smart Case

One of the standout features is Jabra’s new LE Audio smart case, touted as the world’s first. This innovative case allows users to plug into any USB-C or 3.5mm jack, wirelessly transmitting sound to the earbuds. This feature is ideal for in-flight entertainment but can also be used with workout equipment, TVs, and other devices. The case uses a new chip for lower latency LE Audio transmission, promising better sound quality, including Hi-Fi playback.

Enhanced Noise Cancellation

Jabra has significantly improved the active noise cancellation (ANC) on both the Elite 10 and Elite 8 Active. The company claims these new models block up to twice as much noise as their predecessors. By fine-tuning the internal feedback microphones and updating ANC algorithms, the earbuds now better handle mid- and low-frequency sounds, making them more effective against common noises like airplane hums and gym roars.

Refined HearThrough Mode

The HearThrough mode, which allows ambient sound to pass through the earbuds, has also seen enhancements. A new Natural HearThrough mode offers increased wind noise reduction, twice as effective as the previous generation. This improvement comes from algorithms that expand the frequency range, providing clearer outdoor sound.

Jabra Elite 10 (Gen 2)

Spatial Sound and Call Quality

Both models now feature improved tuning for spatial sound. The Elite 8 Active supports Dolby Audio, while the Elite 10 includes Dolby Atmos with head tracking. Jabra’s testing showed that 95 percent of its expert panel preferred the new audio profile over the previous generation. Additionally, call quality has been boosted with updated noise-reduction algorithms, enhancing voice recognition in noisy environments.

Durability and Battery Life

The second-gen Elite 10 and Elite 8 Active retain their robust build and impressive battery life. The Elite 8 Active boasts an IP68 rating (case is IP54), while the Elite 10 has an IP57 rating. Battery life remains strong, with the Elite 10 offering up to six hours of ANC use (27 hours with the case) and the Elite 8 Active providing up to eight hours (32 hours with the case).

Jabra Elite 8 Active (Gen 2)

Connectivity and Availability

Both models continue to support Bluetooth multipoint connectivity, Fast Pair, Swift Pair, and Spotify Tap. The Elite 10 can also connect directly to smartwatches supporting HFP, A2DP, and AVRCP Bluetooth profiles.

The Elite 10 (2nd gen) is available in titanium black, gloss black, brown, blue, and white for $280. The Elite 8 Active (2nd gen) comes in navy, black, coral, and olive green for $230. These prices are $30 higher than the original versions, and the upgraded models will be available in mid-June.
