ESR Gear has a growing presence in the mobile market for making quality accessories. This includes chargers, cases, and stands for Apple and Android devices. We’ve been testing the new ESR Gear Qi2 3-in-1 Charging Stand. This is a follow-up to the previous generation and we’ve come away with another positive experience from ESR.
Design
As mentioned, this could easily be confused for the previous generation ESR HaloLock Stand we reviews last year. You have a MagSafe capable charger coupled with addition cradles for your AirPods and Apple Watch. Overall, the design is very similar. You get a stand with all three wireless charging mechanisms built into the unit.
The latest update is Qi2 certification. The major feature to this is that is support full 15W wireless charing via the magnetic mount. This brings it to parity with Apple’s first party MagSafe offerings as well as future-proofing this charger for incoming Qi2 Android devices we’ve all been promised will arrive in 2024.
The bottom of the stand also functions as the earbuds charger. While the ESR docs point to AirPods, you can use any earbuds case with wireless charging. Around the back of the base is also the USB-C input that the company recommends be at least 30W.
My favorite part of this stand is the Apple Watch charger. It’s a familiar modular design, but ESR Gear has added a little tweak that I love. The cap when you take out of the box is magnetic. That was when you have cap off it magnetically clasps the back of the module. This makes sure you alway have the cap handy and you don’t immediately lose it like others we’ve tested. It’s small, but a nice feature.
Performance
Using the ESR Gear Qi2 Charging Stand has been great. The iPhone charger offers the full 15W input and the magnets are strong without also being hard to take off the mount. The Apple Watch and AirPod stations are capable of 5W of power and function as you’d expect.
I like the modularity of the Watch charger more than I thought I would. Even at 5W, my Apple Watch Ultra still needs more time after my morning shower to get me through the days it needs a top-off in the power capacity. Being able to just throw throw the entire charger off the ESR and then plug into my work docking station via USB-C has been a real positive addition to my morning routines.
