Rokid’s New AR Lite Puts Spatial Computing in Your Hands

0

Rokid recently launched its newest AR device, the Rokid AR Lite, on Kickstarter. This latest innovation promises an advanced and immersive AR experience, leveraging cutting-edge spatial computing technology. The AR Lite suite includes the Rokid Max 2 glasses and Station 2 host, designed to deliver unparalleled performance and versatility.

Rokid AR Lite Suite: What’s Inside

The AR Lite suite is composed of the Rokid Max 2 glasses and the Station 2 host. The Rokid Max 2 glasses create a virtual 300-inch spatial screen, giving the illusion of a large display viewed from a comfortable distance of 6 meters. This feature, combined with support for spatial videos, images, and panoramic pictures, makes every experience vivid and engaging.

The Station 2 host, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 Platform, runs on Rokid’s proprietary YodaOS-Master operating system. It features a 5,000mAh battery, dual USB-C ports, and intuitive touch controls, ensuring a smooth and comprehensive user experience.

Key Features and Innovations

Rokid AR Lite is the first AR glasses system to incorporate the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 Mobile Platform, bringing smartphone-level performance to AR glasses. One of its standout features is the software-based Interpupillary Distance (IPD) adjustment system, which ranges from 53 to 75mm. This system, along with adjustable myopia dials (0.00 to 6.00D), ensures a personalized fit, reducing glare and ghosting for a more comfortable experience.

Embracing Spatial Computing

Spatial computing merges digital and physical environments, enabling users to interact with digital content in three dimensions. Rokid AR Lite exemplifies this technology, offering a full spatial computing experience with three degrees of freedom (3DoF). Users can interact with digital content from multiple perspectives through the Rokid Max 2 glasses and Station 2 host.

Highlighted Features

  • YodaOS-Master Operating System: Provides smooth and responsive interactions.
  • Adjustable Myopia Dials: Customizable settings for various vision needs.
  • Software-Based IPD Adjustment: Ensures a perfect fit and reduces visual distortions.
  • High-Resolution Visuals: Offers 1080p-1200p resolution with up to 600 nits brightness for clear, vivid images.

  • Multi-App Mode: Allows multiple applications to run simultaneously on separate floating screens.
  • Touch Controls and Motion Mode: Stabilizes the screen during movement, reducing motion sickness.
  • Lightweight Design: At only 75 grams, the glasses are comfortable for extended use.

Rokid AR Lite is now available for pre-order on Kickstarter. Early backers can secure the device for a special price of USD $499, a significant discount from the regular price of USD $749.

Insta360 unveils Go 3S tiny action camera with 4K support

0

Insta360 has expanded its Go series action camera portfolio by launching a new Insta360 Go 3S action camera in the lineup. The Go 3S action camera is a slightly upgraded version of the Insta360 Go 3, which was launched in June last year. The latest iteration brings significant internal improvements over the predecessor. However, there are no changes in the overall design, it still looks almost identical to the Go 3. It features the same tiny thumb-sized design, making it an exceptional choice for vloggers and content creators.

One of the major upgrades is that the Insta360 Go 3S now lets you shoot content at a maximum 4K/30fps video resolution. The 4K video resolution support surely makes your videos noticeably sharper, crisper, and clearer. But there’s a catch, the action camera doesn’t support 60fps in 2.7K or 1080P shooting modes, not even in 4K, which is slightly disappointing. Maybe, we’ll have to wait for the next Go series champ for 60fps support.

The 4K support brings further changes to the overall camera hardware. The Go 3S has an f2.8 aperture with a 16mm focal length and 4,000 x 3,000 (4:3) and 3,968 x 1,472 (2:7:1) photo resolutions. Furthermore, the action camera now records at 120Mbps in H.264 which is the nice bump from Go 3’s 80Mbps.

Insta360 also incorporated Apple Find My compatibility in the Go 3S, making it trackable within the network. But keep in mind that this feature will work as long as the Go 3S is switched on, once the device is switched off you can’t track it. The camera now goes more deeper, all the way to 33ft (10m), compared to 16ft on the older model.

Insta360 also added a new MegaView FOV setting which gives a more realistic look with less distortion and straighter and cleaner edges. The Slow Motion setting has been boosted to a maximum of 200fps at 1080p or 2.7k, compared to the Go 3’s maximum 1080p at 120fps. The latest slow-motion upgrades make the highlights ultra-smooth and stunning. The Go 3S can automatically detect your shooting style whether in a vertical or horizontal aspect ratio and adjusts the camera settings accordingly.

Insta360 Go 3S now captures in JPG format natively which is another welcome upgrade over the Go 3’s INSP native format, which not only saves a lot of time but also makes it easier to access the photos in every device.

Insta360 introduced higher storage models this time for the Go 3S, which is nice. The base model now comes with an upgraded 64GB storage on board while the high-end model remains unchanged at 128GB.

Despite all these impressive upgrades, the all-new Insta360 Go 3S retains the same pricing as the Go 3, isn’t this impressive? The base 64GB model is available at just $399 and the 128GB storage variant retails at $429.99. As for color options, it’s available in Midnight Black and Arctic White color options. You can now buy the Insta360 Go 3S via Inst360’s official website and other authorized retailers.

Light Shines Again: The Light Phone III Brings Minimalism to Modern Tech

0

In a world where smartphones are getting smarter and more complex, Light is taking a refreshing turn with its latest release, the Light Phone III. Known for their minimalist approach, Light has once again embraced simplicity, offering a device that focuses on essential functions while stripping away the distractions of the digital age.

The Light Phone III carries forward the brand’s ethos with a black-and-white display that forgoes social media, the internet, and email. However, this model introduces a larger OLED display and an NFC chip, paving the way for future payment tools. It also includes a camera, allowing users to capture moments without the frills of a typical smartphone.

Bigger and Better Design

Co-founder Joe Hollier shares that the goal was to enhance usability and performance. The Light Phone III is about as wide as most iPhones but shorter, resembling the form factor of a BlackBerry. This size tweak makes vertical texting a breeze. The AMOLED screen, lighting only the white pixels, paired with matte glass, maintains the e-ink aesthetic many users love.

Origins and Evolution

Light started in 2014 as a Kickstarter project aimed at those wanting to break free from smartphone addiction. The first two models, the Light Phone I and II, sold over 100,000 units combined, with the Light Phone II making up most of the sales.

Essential Features, Minimal Distractions

The Light Phone III keeps necessary features like maps, navigation, calls, texting, notes, voice notes, a calendar, timer, alarm, calculator, hotspot, and a simple music player and podcasts tool. It deliberately leaves out social media apps, clickbait news, and web browsers, offering a focused user experience.

Users can choose their own carrier or opt for Light’s $30 per month phone plan with 1GB of data. There are also plans at $45/month for 5GB or $70/month for unlimited data. This phone is perfect for those who want a break from their primary device but still need to stay connected.

Privacy First

Privacy is a big deal for Light. When using features like navigation, Light ensures that user data isn’t tracked or shared with tech giants like Google.

New Additions and Upgrades

This model introduces a 50-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. It’s designed for simple, point-and-shoot use. Another new feature is the light wheel, which lets users easily adjust screen brightness.

The Light Phone III also supports more antenna bands, making it a global device. It features aluminum casing, recycled plastic speaker grilles, larger speakers, a fingerprint ID power button, and 5G capability. With 6GB of RAM, 128GB of memory, and modern Qualcomm chips, it’s a significant upgrade. The battery is user-replaceable, or Light can replace it for under $50.

Pricing and Availability

The Light Phone III is priced at $799, a significant jump from the $299 Light Phone II, which will still be available. Early adopters can preorder the new model for $399, supporting the first production run with Foxconn. Orders are expected to ship in January 2025.

Full Specs of the Light Phone III:

  • Dimensions: 106mm x 71.5mm x 12mm
  • Weight: 124g
  • Network: 5G + 4GLTE
  • Display: 3.92” AMOLED (1080×1240)
  • Screen: Matte Glass
  • Port: USB-C 2.0
  • Camera: 50m rear / 8m front
  • SIM: Nano SIM + E-SIM
  • Memory: 128GB / 6GB RAM
  • Battery: 1800 mAH
  • Sound: 2 mics (noise cancellation), 2 stereo speakers
  • Features: GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, Fingerprint ID
  • Materials: Aluminum, Glass, SORPLAS Recycled Plastic
  • Chipset: Qualcomm SM 4450
  • IP Rating: IP 54

Light is pushing the boundaries of what a phone should be, focusing on what matters most and letting go of the rest. The Light Phone III is not just a device; it’s a statement against the constant digital noise of today’s world. Is it a statement that resonates with you, though? And are you willing to drop premium-tier money for the experience?

HTC U24 Pro: New Specs, Familiar Design – and We’re Here for It

0

HTC has released its latest mid-range Android phone, the U24 Pro, reminding the tech world that the company is still very much in the game. Known for its occasional surprises, HTC continues to show its dedication to the smartphone market.

The U24 Pro is now available for pre-order in Taiwan, boasting Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor. It runs Android 14 smoothly with 12GB of RAM and offers storage options of either 256GB or 512GB. For those who need more space, there’s a microSD card slot included.

The phone features a 6.8-inch FHD+ OLED display, delivering vibrant colors and crisp details. Up front, there’s a notification LED, a small but handy feature that’s becoming rare. Powering the device is a 4,600mAh battery, supporting wired charging up to 60W and wireless charging up to 15W. Other essentials include NFC, Bluetooth, IP67 water resistance, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, catering to users who appreciate traditional audio connections.

The camera setup on the U24 Pro is robust, with three rear cameras: a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 50MP telephoto lens. The front-facing camera also impresses with a 50MP sensor, cleverly integrated into the display, leaving the top bezel to house the notification LED, earpiece, and other sensors.

One aspect to keep in mind is that software updates aren’t necessarily guaranteed with HTC devices. This might concern users who prioritize having the latest software features and security updates. However, for many, the solid hardware and overall performance might be the primary focus, making this a minor drawback.

In Taiwan, the U24 Pro is priced at $18,990 TWD, roughly $585 USD. It will be available in “Twilight White” and “Space Blue” starting June 30. Global availability details are yet to be announced, but this release signals HTC’s ongoing, albeit minor, commitment to delivering quality smartphones.
