HONOR Deepens Google Cloud Partnership, Showcases AI Imaging Features and Teases May Product Launches

0

HONOR is doubling down on artificial intelligence through its deepening collaboration with Google Cloud, aiming to bring flagship-level features to a wider audience. Speaking at Google Cloud Next 2025 in Las Vegas, HONOR highlighted new tools powered by Google’s Gemini and Imagen models, and previewed a new wave of productivity-focused devices set to debut in May.

Smarter Imaging with AI Outpainting and AI Eraser

At the heart of HONOR’s announcements was an upgraded suite of photo-editing features under its AiMAGE umbrella. One standout is AI Outpainting, a post-shot reframing tool that uses Google’s Imagen model to expand photos beyond their original borders. It can double the size of a captured image, even in complex environments like urban architecture and natural landscapes.

“AI Outpainting is a game-changer,” said Eric Fang, Senior Director of Product Planning at HONOR. “It allows users to capture moments without worrying about perfect framing, then recompose later with confidence.”

Alongside it, AI Eraser lets users remove unwanted objects from photos with just a few taps. Imagen’s integration ensures realistic background fill, aiming to minimize the awkward edits or surreal gaps sometimes associated with generative tools.

ALPHA PLAN and the Push for Global AI Access

These features are part of HONOR’s broader ALPHA PLAN, an initiative to position the company as a global leader in AI-powered devices. A key part of this effort is making high-end AI tools more accessible. For example, even the recently launched HONOR 400 Lite in Europe includes AI Outpainting, AI Eraser, and AI Upscale—features typically reserved for flagship models.

“Democratizing AI is at the core of our mission,” Fang noted. “We want to unlock the potential of intelligent technology for everyone, not just premium device users.”

What’s Coming in May: AI-Powered Video and Office Tools

Looking ahead, HONOR is teasing new products set to launch in May 2025. These will integrate video generation capabilities built with Google’s Veo platform, allowing users to create short clips from text prompts with improved realism and motion fidelity.

Beyond creative tools, HONOR and Google Gemini are co-developing AI-powered productivity features that promise to streamline day-to-day tasks. These new office tools are designed to offer more intuitive assistance, potentially making smartphones smarter co-pilots in work and personal life.

A Strategic Leap in AI Integration

HONOR’s strengthened ties with Google Cloud are a clear signal of its long-term vision: tightly weaving on-device and cloud-based AI to create more intelligent, user-friendly experiences. With continued co-development of future-facing tools, the company appears set on expanding what’s possible from a smartphone.

More details on the partnership and upcoming products can be found on HONOR’s official website.

Comcast is rolling out a new option for Xfinity Internet customers: a guaranteed monthly rate for five years. Beginning today, customers nationwide can secure internet service for as little as $55 per month, a price locked in for five years with no annual contract required. Yes, that’s half a decade without unexpected hikes, a rarity in the broadband world.

One Simple Price, Plenty of Perks

This new package is designed to remove uncertainty around internet billing, addressing the common customer gripes of rising costs and unclear terms. Comcast COO Steve Croney emphasized the company’s commitment to transparent, straightforward pricing, noting, “Our new price guarantee removes complexity.”

Included in this guarantee is Xfinity’s high-performance WiFi gateway, powerful enough to support more than 100 devices simultaneously, ideal for tech-filled households or anyone juggling dozens of gadgets. Unlimited Data and Enhanced Mobile Benefits

With unlimited data built into every guaranteed-price plan, customers won’t face surprise charges for streaming one too many episodes of their favorite series. Additionally, Comcast sweetens the deal by offering a complimentary line of Xfinity Mobile for one year. Xfinity Mobile now includes WiFi PowerBoost, automatically providing speeds of up to 1 Gbps, even while on the go.

Given that over 90% of Xfinity Mobile data travels over WiFi, customers can expect lightning-fast connectivity without burning through their cellular data allotment.

Speed Meets Security (and Parental Peace of Mind)

Comcast’s package isn’t just about speed, it’s about security and ease of use. Every Xfinity Gateway includes Advanced Security at no extra cost, safeguarding all connected devices against malware and other cyber threats at the network level.

For parents managing household internet use, built-in controls accessible via the Xfinity app offer capabilities to pause connections, schedule WiFi access, or check on devices joining their network. That’s right, mom, no more midnight gaming marathons without permission.

Gamers and Streamers Rejoice: Ultra-Low Lag Technology

Comcast is also showcasing its ultra-low lag internet technology, optimized for applications demanding minimal latency, such as FaceTime, NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW, Valve’s Steam platform, and mixed reality experiences on Apple and Meta devices. Users can expect smoother, more responsive interactions, whether in critical gaming matches or virtual meetings.

Interested customers can learn more or sign up at Xfinity’s official website or by visiting their local Xfinity store.

Mudita Kompakt Aims to Take the Stress Out of Smartphones

0

The pushback against always-on digital life continues, and Mudita is doubling down on the trend with its latest release: the Mudita Kompakt, a minimalist mobile phone built to cut through the noise—literally and figuratively.

Designed by the Polish brand known for its mindfulness-first approach to tech, the Kompakt isn’t trying to be a stripped-down smartphone. It’s built from the ground up as an intentional device with a clear purpose: to reduce digital distractions and support more present, less interrupted living. And it does so without the complexity of modern devices or the need for yet another learning curve.

At the heart of the Kompakt is a 4.3-inch E Ink screen that delivers a glare-free experience reminiscent of paper, cutting back on eye strain and visual noise. The device runs on MuditaOS K, a privacy-minded, Google-free operating system that favors clarity and control over bloat and background tracking. Think core tools—phone, texts, maps, music, calendar, and weather—without the barrage of pings and infinite scroll.

A physical Offline+ Mode switch gives users the option to completely disconnect: GSM, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and even the microphones can all be shut off on a hardware level. It’s a deliberate feature for those who want their phone to feel more like a tool than a tether.

Kompakt Specs

  • Display: 4.3” E Ink, 800×480 resolution
  • Battery: 3300 mAh Li-Polymer, up to 6 days in standby mode
  • Processor: Quad-core MediaTek MT6761V/WBA
  • Memory: 3GB RAM, 32GB Storage (expandable via microSD)
  • Audio: ACC Speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack
  • Connectivity: 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC
  • Location: GPS
  • Camera: 8MP with dual-color flash
  • Operating System: Custom Mudita OS K (De-Googled)
  • SIM Configuration: Includes eSIM, 1 nano-SIM, and a hybrid slot (second nano-SIM or microSD)
  • Durability: IP54 dust/splash resistance, reinforced internal metal frame
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro, Ambient light sensor, Proximity sensor, Magnetometer
  • Languages: English, Spanish, French, Polish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch

Despite its minimalism, the Kompakt doesn’t skip out on useful hardware. You’ll find 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, dual SIM support (nano-SIM + eSIM), a USB-C port, wireless charging, and even an 8MP rear camera. There’s also a headphone jack for those keeping it analog, a fingerprint sensor, and IP54 dust/splash resistance packed into a sturdy metal frame.

Mudita positions this phone as a universal fit: great for digital detoxers in their 20s and 30s, and equally friendly to older adults who don’t want to wrestle with layered menus and unwanted apps. No classes or tutorials needed—just pick it up and go.

The Mudita Kompakt is priced at $335 for early buyers ahead of its May ship date, which reflects a pre-order discount from the expected $439 MSRP. It comes in two regional variants: one optimized for global use and another tailored for North America.

If you’re part of the growing group—49% of Millennials and 44% of Gen Z—looking to scale back on screen time, the Kompakt might be the reset button you’re looking for.

Soundpeats POP Clip Earbuds Review

I love writing a good old fashioned earbuds review. Honestly, I’ve come to somewhat be “that guy” here at Android Guys. So, when a new take on wireless audio starts to take shape, I’m always intrigued. Recently, that movement has been towards “open-ear” concepts that take the traditional outlook of how earbuds should function and feel, and changing things up a bit.

In the past, earbuds have always been designed to fit snugly inside the ear canal, aiming for an immersive sound experience while isolating the user from external noise. However, the emergence of open-ear designs is challenging this norm, prioritizing comfort and awareness of surroundings over strict sound isolation. This trend has gained traction as users seek a more natural listening experience that allows them to stay connected with their environments, whether while exercising, commuting, or just enjoying a casual stroll.

Soundpeats has joined this innovative movement with the release of two new models in 2024. I recently took the Pearclip Pros for a spin, which offered impressive sound quality while maintaining an open-ear design, allowing for a unique listening experience. The company has now shared the POP Clip, which boasts a similar approach on how earbuds should look and feel in the modern Bluetooth accessories market.

The POP Clip, like the Pearclip Pros, emphasizes user comfort and versatility. Its design is lightweight, making it easy to wear for extended periods without discomfort. Furthermore, the aesthetic appeal is noteworthy, with a sleek and modern finish that aligns well with current tech trends. As the market for open-ear earbuds continues to evolve, I’m keen to see how these models perform in real-world scenarios and how they compare against traditional in-ear options.

With so many features to explore and a growing consumer interest in this type of audio technology, it’s an exciting time for audio enthusiasts like me. I’m particularly interested in the balance these earphones strike between sound quality, comfort, and the ability to stay aware of one’s surroundings. Exploring this new frontier in audio tech has never been more thrilling!

Design

The overall design is similar to the Pearclip Pros, but has a few key differences. The first alteration you’ll notice is not both sides of the “clip” are rounded on the POP Clip wireless earphones. This allowed to two things that I preferred while testing the POP Clips over the previous models.

One, this makes for a better glanceable design point to know which portion of the POP are to be placed inside the ear versus outside. The round rectangle on the outside ending of the arch makes for immediate orientation is correctly made each time you take them out of the case.

Next, this elongated bulb on one end of the POP Clip allows for more internals. This adds two extra hours of playback per use of the POP due to the extra power bank space in this section of the hardware. It also makes room for a tactile button to control playback and volume.

Sound

Soundpeats has produced better than anticipated audio from the POP Clips. My initial reaction to any of the “open-ear” buds were that each would suffer in this department due to not being fully in the ear. Soundpeats has proven me wrong yet again with the POP Clip earbuds.

While they still aren’t quite as immersive from your environment as say active noise cancellation models from OnePlus, and others, that’s by design. These types of wireless earbuds are meant to be a hybrid option for those that do want to be a little more aware of their surroundings.

Soundpeats’ POP Clip delivers a comfortable, aware listening experience with surprisingly solid audio and impressive 8-hour battery life. Its thoughtful design, including tactile controls and easy orientation, proves you don’t have to sacrifice quality or functionality for affordability in open-ear earbuds.

The final result is a balanced listening experience without fully blocking out things around you. Highs are decent and bass chimes in when needed. As I mentioned in my previous “open-ear” review, I’ve come to really enjoy this type of device while working my cube in my day job.

Battery and Charging

Soundpeats estimates eight hours of playback per charge of the POP Clips. I’ve found this to be very accurate. You can easily get through a workday without topping these earbuds off. Adding in the charging case, you can be fully away from the outlet for up to 30 hours.

When you do need to charge the system, you just need a USB-C cable. The case acts as the charging mechanism, and you plug your cable into the back. While Qi wireless charging isn’t included, I think this is reasonable for the price point. At just $40 is much easier to accept the omission.

Final Thoughts

I’m loving the moment open-earbuds are having right now. Having alternatives to the normal stemmed offerings for those that may find those too isolating or uncomfortable is nice to see. The Soundpeats POP Clips are another option worth consideration. With the comfy fit to the pretty solid audio, you have earbuds that also won’t break the bank.

You can snag your Soundpeats POP Clips from Amazon using our link below. To celebrate the launch, you can save another $10 if you act fast.

Level Up with LOC8: Journey’s Tiny Trackers, Big Peace of Mind

Journey has quickly become one of my favorite accessory makers. After moving to iPhone a few years ago now, the lineup the company consistently churns out for Apple devices is top-notch. From chargers to Apple Watch straps, Journey rarely disappoints.

One market that Journey shines is third-party Find My Devices for tracking your personal items. The line is branded as the LOC8 moniker and has become one of the strongest offerings from Journey. I’ve taken a few weeks now to help our readers get a hands-on feel for some of our favorite trackers currently for sale from the LOC8 group.

Journey LOC8 Motion Key Organizer

Let’s start with the latest and unique option from the line, the LOC8 Motion Key Organizer. There are other options for something like this squircle, compact key organizer, but it’s the first I’ve seen with the Apple Find My Device network onboard. Adding the most popular, and accurate, tracking network in the United States is a huge plus for the LOC8 Motion Key Organizer.

From a design standpoint, you get a fantastic mix of metal and leather components that combine to hold your keys. This “switchblade” style organization makes for a slim, compact storage system for the keys. There’s a screw stud that has a great flip up twist mechanism that makes destructing and constructing the layout tool-less, which is a nice touch.

Also included, is a studded divider that sits in the middle, allowing you to easily access all your key with just the turn of that one section. Internally, you have a rechargeable battery rated for four months per charge.

All that is great, but with LOC8 in the literal naming, you need to know how well it leverages the Find My Device network. I had an entire scenario of how I was going to mock test this, and then found out in the first week by accident how well this works. I rode with my wife to our gym and had the LOC8 Motion Key system in my gym bag. While trying not to die in the workout, I reached in my bag for my gymnastic grips and dropped my keys in the cubby storage bins.

Once I arrived home, and realized my accident, I had the piece of mind that Find My told me exactly where they were. A five-minute ride back to the gym and the app, pointing to me to the cubbies, had my keys back in my pocket.

At just $80, the LOC8 Motion Key Organizer not only simplifies your old keyring, but gives you that mental security of losing your keys is now a thing of the past.

Purchase the LOC8 Motion Key Organizer

Journey LOC8 Finder Card

Next in the LOC8 lineup is the new Finder Card. This can be used in a multitude of situations, but let’s be honest, this is for tracking your wallet. The LOC8 Finder Card is roughly the size of two credit cards stacked together.

Again, the Find My Device integration directly with Apple’s existing ecosystem makes this a seamless option for iOS users. It’s been accurate in reporting the Finder Card’s location and when ping the card for a lost beacon or the built-in sound alert, the device has been prompt in responding.

My one negative of the LOC8 Finder Card is the battery. Yes, it will last up to two years without failing, but having it be disposable after that period seems like a waste. Competitors for this type of wallet devices, including the integrated LOC8 Wallets from Journey, include inductive chargers. The company simply should have engineered this mechanism.

The Journey LOC8 Finder Card is still a fine option despite this omission. Especially at just $25. Hit our link below to snag one now.

Purchase the Journey LOC8 Finder Card

Journey LOC8 Finder Fob

Our final entry on our list of LOC8 units from Journey is the Finder Fob. This is the most akin to the OG Find My Device of the Apple AirTag. The general design is a plastic rounded square puck with a punch out of for a keyring or other attachment.

Adding the LOC8 Finder Fob to Apple’s Find My app works just like the rest and very similar to the AirTag. Within a few steps, you are ready to track the Fob. One side of the tracker has a door that can be opened with either a flathead screwdriver or small coin to access the replaceable battery.

Where the LOC8 Finder Fob sets itself apart from the AirTag, is price and the built-in attachment punch out. At just $25, it is less than an AirTag buy a few buck, but not having to add a cover or other accessory to attach to what you want to track is where you get the winning mojo for the LOC8 Finder Fob.

Purchase the Journey LOC8 Finder Fob
