SteelSeries is marking its 25th anniversary with a significant technical leap, introducing the Sensei Pro and Rival Pro Series, the world’s first wireless gaming mice to combine Ultra-Wideband (UWB) wireless technology with a true 8,000Hz polling rate. Pre-orders open globally on September 29, with retail availability beginning October 13.
The Problem With 2.4GHz (And Why It Matters)
Most wireless gaming mice operate on the 2.4GHz band, a spectrum shared by headsets, keyboards, smartphones, and countless other devices. In competitive gaming environments, that congestion can compromise the consistency of high polling rates, making “8K wireless” more of a marketing claim than a reliable reality.
SteelSeries addresses this directly by moving to Ultra-Wideband, which operates across the 6.4GHz to 9.056GHz spectrum and offers roughly 20 times the bandwidth of traditional 2.4GHz connections. The result is a cleaner, lower-latency signal that can sustain true 8K performance even in signal-dense environments.
Three Technologies, One System

The Sensei Pro and Rival Pro Series are built around three core innovations working in tandem.
UWB wireless provides the signal foundation, leveraging multiple wireless channels simultaneously for consistent, interference-resistant performance. On top of that sits a true 8,000Hz polling rate, refreshing position data up to 8,000 times per second, which is up to eight times faster than a standard 1,000Hz mouse. A dedicated Max Performance Mode locks the sensor into 8K mode continuously, with 20K frames per second capture and full 800IPS/70G tracking maintained at all times, including during micro-movements.
Powering it all is SteelSeries’ Infinite Power System, a hot-swappable dual-battery setup that keeps gameplay uninterrupted. One battery charges while the other runs, delivering up to 32 hours of use at 8K (16 hours per battery) or up to 120 hours at 1K (60 hours per battery). It’s the kind of solution that makes “8K all day” a practical reality rather than a spec-sheet footnote.
Built Light, Built to Last
The lineup spans four models: the Sensei Pro, Sensei Pro Mini, Rival Pro, and Rival Pro Mini, each available in Black and White. Full-size models weigh in at just 53g, while the mini variants trim that down to 49g. All four are equipped with Optical Switches rated for 100 million clicks and a 0.35ms response time, alongside SteelSeries’ new TrueMove 42K optical sensor for high-precision tracking.

The Sensei and Rival franchises, first introduced in 2011 and 2013 respectively, built their reputations on shape, comfort, and consistency among pro players. The new Pro Series carries that legacy forward while adding modern engineering aimed squarely at competitive titles like Counter-Strike 2, VALORANT, and Fortnite.
Software That Goes the Distance
SteelSeries describes the accompanying GG Software Suite as the most complete software package it has ever shipped with a new product. It includes device configuration, aim training tools, and a web-based app. Standout features include Rotation Control, Adjustable Liftoff Distance, Scroll Jump Protection, a Sensitivity Finder, a cross-game Sensitivity Converter, and a 3D Aim Trainer designed for FPS improvement.
