SimpliSafe’s New Video Doorbell Can Put a Live Security Agent at Your Front Door

SimpliSafe’s New Video Doorbell Can Put a Live Security Agent at Your Front Door

SimpliSafe has introduced the Video Doorbell Series 2, a $199.99 smart doorbell camera that pairs sharper 2K video and AI-powered detection with an unusual security feature: trained monitoring agents who can see what is happening, speak through the doorbell, sound its siren, and potentially intervene before a porch thief or intruder gets very far.

The new model is available now through SimpliSafe and select retailers, giving existing SimpliSafe customers a more capable camera for keeping an eye on visitors, deliveries, and activity around the front entrance.

More Than A Camera Recording The Porch

Video Doorbell Series 2 works with SimpliSafe’s Active Guard Outdoor Protection service, which can alert U.S.-based security agents when the camera identifies a potential threat.

Those agents can access the camera feed, use two-way audio to address someone on the property, trigger the doorbell’s siren, request police dispatch, and capture video evidence.

The idea is to move home security closer to intervention rather than relying entirely on a homeowner seeing a notification and responding quickly enough. Anyone who has watched a delivery notification turn into a video of someone walking off with a package can probably appreciate the distinction.

Access to Active Guard Outdoor Protection requires either SimpliSafe’s Pro plan at $49.99 per month or Pro Plus at $79.99 per month.

2K Video With A Head-To-Toe View

The camera itself receives several changes compared with SimpliSafe’s previous Video Doorbell Pro.

Video Doorbell Series 2 records at 2K resolution and offers an expanded head-to-toe field of view, which should make it easier to see visitors and packages sitting near the doorstep.

There is improved two-way audio for talking with someone outside, plus up to five seconds of pre-event video capture on qualifying paid plans. That feature records the moments immediately before a detected event, providing extra context rather than starting the clip after the action has already begun.

Connectivity now includes both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi.

AI Watches For People And Packages

SimpliSafe’s Smart AI can identify people and packages, with vehicle detection planned for a future release. Customers can create Activity Zones that concentrate alerts on selected portions of the camera’s view, helping filter out passing traffic or activity in a neighbor’s yard.

The SimpliSafe app provides control over camera settings, recordings, and alerts. Customers on select monitoring plans can create a library of familiar faces, such as family members, neighbors, or a regular dog walker, giving professional monitoring agents more context when reviewing activity.

SimpliSafe notes that face matching is disabled in certain restricted locations, including Texas, Illinois, and Portland, Oregon.

Pricing And Compatibility

The SimpliSafe Video Doorbell Series 2 costs $199.99 and is available now from SimpliSafe.com and select retailers.

It requires a SimpliSafe Base Station and Keypad, along with an existing wired doorbell installation using a mechanical or digital chime and compatible transformer. The camera can still operate within a SimpliSafe security system without professional monitoring, though features such as live Active Guard intervention require an eligible monitoring plan.

More information about the Video Doorbell Series 2, SimpliSafe security products, and available monitoring options can be found through the company’s official website.
