RedMagic has officially introduced the RedMagic 12 Pro to global markets, bringing a new flagship gaming smartphone with an upgraded processor, a high-refresh-rate OLED display, a larger battery, and an enhanced cooling system.
The global release follows the recent introduction of the RedMagic 12 Pro+ in China. Although the international model retains much of the hardware associated with the Chinese lineup, it comes with some differences, including slower wired charging and a lower shoulder-trigger response rate.
Other major features include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, a 6.85-inch OLED display with a 185Hz refresh rate, an 8,400mAh battery, and RedMagic’s AquaCore Cooling System 3.0. The device also includes dedicated gaming chips, a built-in cooling fan, Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, and an under-display selfie camera.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Powers the Gaming Experience
At the center of the RedMagic 12 Pro is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. RedMagic supplements the main processor with its dedicated RedCore R5 gaming chip and G1 display chip, which are designed to handle gaming-related processing and display functions.
The phone runs RedMagic OS 12, based on Android 17. Its software features include built-in Google Gemini support, PC game emulation, and Steam access through the X-Gravity gaming center.

These features give the device a broader gaming focus beyond conventional mobile titles. The combination of dedicated gaming hardware and software tools is intended to support demanding games and additional gaming experiences.
AquaCore Cooling System 3.0 Adds Advanced Heat Management
Gaming smartphones can generate considerable heat during extended sessions, making cooling an important part of their design. RedMagic addresses this with its AquaCore Cooling System 3.0.
The updated system uses a dual-loop liquid cooling arrangement, accompanied by RGB lighting and a new micro-pump. According to RedMagic, the pump delivers pressure of up to 130kPa, representing an 85 percent improvement over the previous pump. The company also says its power consumption can be as low as 20mW.
The cooling hardware includes a built-in fan capable of reaching speeds of up to 25,500 revolutions per minute. RedMagic has also increased vapor chamber coverage by 15 percent and incorporated Liquid Metal 4.0 into the cooling setup.
Additional gaming features include Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, an X-axis linear motor, and dedicated shoulder triggers. However, the global version’s shoulder triggers have a 520Hz response rate, below the 700Hz rate offered by the Chinese version.
8,400mAh Battery Supports Longer Gaming Sessions
Battery capacity is another major selling point of the RedMagic 12 Pro. The smartphone packs an 8,400mAh battery, a 12 percent increase over the 7,500mAh battery in the previous-generation RedMagic 11 Pro.

The global model supports 80W wired charging. This is slower than the 120W charging available on the Chinese RedMagic 12 Pro+.
RedMagic has also included wireless charging and bypass charging. The latter allows the phone to receive power directly during gaming sessions instead of continuously charging the battery. This can help reduce battery charging activity while the device is being used.
Despite its larger battery, the RedMagic 12 Pro is slightly thinner than its predecessor. It measures 8.5mm thick, compared with 8.9mm for the RedMagic 11 Pro.
185Hz OLED Display Delivers a Full-Screen Gaming Experience
The RedMagic 12 Pro features a 6.85-inch 1.5K OLED display supplied by BOE. Its 185Hz refresh rate is a significant upgrade over the 144Hz panel used in the RedMagic 11 Pro.
The display also offers peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits and a touch sampling rate of up to 5,000Hz. RedMagic says the panel has extremely slim 0.96mm bezels, helping create an expansive viewing area.
Another important design feature is the ninth-generation under-display selfie camera. Instead of using a conventional punch-hole cutout, the camera sits beneath the display, allowing the screen to remain uninterrupted during gaming and video playback.

For selfies and video calls, the phone uses a 16-megapixel front camera developed in collaboration with BOE. It also features a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor integrated into the display.
Dual 50MP Rear Cameras Handle Photography
Although the RedMagic 12 Pro is primarily designed for gaming, it also includes a dual-camera setup on the rear.
The system consists of a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The main sensor’s optical stabilization is designed to help reduce the effects of camera movement when capturing photos and videos.
On the front, the 16-megapixel under-display camera handles selfies and video calls while preserving the phone’s full-screen appearance.
RedMagic 12 Pro vs. RedMagic 11 Pro: Key Upgrades
The RedMagic 12 Pro brings several improvements over the RedMagic 11 Pro, particularly in display performance, battery capacity, processing hardware, and software.
The new model moves from a 144Hz refresh rate to 185Hz, while its stated peak brightness increases from 2,000 nits to 5,000 nits. It also replaces the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
Battery capacity increases from 7,500mAh to 8,400mAh, while the new phone is slightly thinner at 8.5mm instead of 8.9mm. The operating system also moves from Android 16-based RedMagic OS 11 to Android 17-based RedMagic OS 12.
The main camera specifications remain unchanged on paper, with both generations featuring 50-megapixel main and ultra-wide rear cameras and a 16-megapixel under-display front camera.

Global RedMagic 12 Pro Makes Some Hardware Compromises
Despite its upgrades, the global RedMagic 12 Pro does not retain every specification of the Chinese model. The most noticeable difference is wired charging speed. While the Chinese RedMagic 12 Pro+ supports 120W charging, the global 12 Pro is limited to 80W.

The shoulder triggers also have a lower response rate on the international model. Their 520Hz response rate compares with 700Hz on the Chinese version.
These differences are worth considering for buyers who prioritize fast charging or the most responsive gaming controls. However, the global model still includes wireless charging, bypass charging, dedicated gaming chips, and an advanced cooling system.
