MSI EZgo Portable EV Charger Now Available, Starts at $349

MSI, the hardware company best known for gaming laptops and graphics cards, has moved further into the EV space with the launch of the MSI EZgo, a portable Level 1/Level 2 electric vehicle charger that starts at $349. The EZgo is available now in the US through MSI directly and on Amazon.

Designed for People Without a Dedicated Charger

MSI built the EZgo for EV owners who don’t have a home garage or a hardwired charging setup, whether they’re renting an apartment, staying at a hotel, or plugging in at an office parking lot. It goes straight into a wall outlet, no installation required.

The charger ships with two power cords: a NEMA 5-15 for standard 120V outlets (1.4 kW) and a NEMA 14-50 for 240V, which unlocks the full 9.6 kW Level 2 speed at up to 40 amps. Switching between them uses MSI’s IP66-rated quick-coupling connector. Total reach is 27 feet, and both J1772 and NACS connectors are available, so it covers most EVs sold in the US.

A Surprisingly Long Safety Certification List

MSI put the EZgo through a stack of UL certifications that most portable chargers in this price range skip:

  • UL 2594 (charger safety)
  • UL 2231 (protection against electric shock)
  • UL 2263 (cable safety, rated 600V and 105°C)
  • UL 94 V0 (fire resistance)
  • UL 746C (weatherproof housing)

The housing is IP66-rated and has cleared a 2-ton drive-over test. A built-in thermal sensor in the plug cuts power before heat buildup becomes dangerous. Onboard protections cover over/under-voltage, overload, over-temperature, ground fault, and DC leakage.

A Screen on a Portable Charger

One thing that stands out: the EZgo has a 1.8-inch LCD display, which is uncommon in this category. It shows real-time voltage, current draw, temperature, charge status, and error codes. Two physical buttons handle amp adjustment and charge scheduling without ever opening an app.

For those who want app control, MSI’s free aConnect app on iOS and Android connects via Bluetooth and adds remote start/stop, off-peak scheduling, energy tracking, and cost estimates. Multi-user sharing requires no complicated device binding, which makes it a practical option for households or shared charging setups.

What’s in the Box

MSI includes both power cords, a wall-mount holder, a metal cable hook, installation hardware, and a carry bag. The bag has a non-slip exterior, rubber-coated zipper pulls, and an interior document pocket. It fits in most trunks or frunks at roughly 18 x 14 x 5 inches. Color options are Matte White and Titan Grey.

The EZgo carries a 2-year warranty backed by US-based support including a call center, RMA center, and live chat.

“With EZgo, we want every EV driver in America to have a reliable, intelligent charging option that goes wherever they go.” — James Su, EVSE Business Division, MSI
